Could Lewis Holtby be the answer?

I think Dembele is going to have a fight on his hands to keep his position in the side, especially if he has injury troubles. Holtby looks like a real player to me and I genuinely think he might be a better fit for us than Dembele.

It's just modric all over again, playing him behind the striker when he should be playing in CM

I actually think he is our modric replacement

He doesn't have the close dribbling abilities of ratface.

Not sure where he will fit in if I am honest. Wont be a first 11 man though. Cannot see him in either the midfield three or the front three. Siggy is ahead of him as well at present.

Why is that? When he plays for Germany U21's, he plays in a deeper midfield role and is excellent at it. He shifts the ball quickly, something we really struggled with last year in our overly laboured build up. He has good vision and technical ability and he works his ass off. Can't see any reason why he wouldn't excell in a midfield 3 for us. Siggy will play higher up the pitch when he plays.

Siggy gets unwarranted praise. Same as Carroll. Holtby gets unwarranted stick. I have no doubt that in ten years people will not even compare the careers of all three as Holtby will be considered a level above.

Disagree with the first two - Siggy is regularly slated on here and Carroll has huge potential.

Agree with the third point - Holtby is an excellent player who is a victim of short-sightedness (and retardedness) from a lot of Spurs fans.

I think that they will come good the three of them. Huge talents one and all.

Do we need erikson? Holtby is class and so is his work ethic

Always good to have competition for places

Holtby still needs to step up in the Premier League, but I don't see why he can't - great technique and vision! And still young to boot.

And Holtby scores

Just back from the game, Holtby was back between Kabs and Verts as an extra defender, in the middle winning the ball and creating, and scored a sweet goal: sure, weak opposition, but Dembele doesn't even leave the centre circle. Silky skills are not enough.

Sandro/Capoue, Paulinho/Dembele, Holtby/Carroll, Eriksen/Chadli, Lamela/Townsend

This will be our midfield 5 I think, whether it's 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. Eriksen and Holtby can and hopefully will play in the same teams - Eriksen can play out on the left.

That's how I think it should play out too, could even squeeze Siggy in as a general utility attacker. That's the kind of depth to meet a 60+ game season head-on and come out on top!

Huge boost that Holtby is back. I think he'll go on to have a great season as one of the central 3. Eriksen will play further forward so no problem there, in fact I can't wait to see them line up in the same side.

Holtby was always going to be a major part of our success this upcoming season. I'm very happy that we have Holtby and Siggy as the AMs. Both very capable players who can score goals. Out wide, striker and comp/depth for Sandro is what we're lacking.
Well, apart from the Gylfi thing (I still like him as a player!), I've knocked that out of the park.

Let the ball-washing commence.
