With all due respect, not starting Eriksen, Lamela, and Paulinho is a recipe for dropped points. They are arguably the most talented players we have in the squad, and all of them are fit and talented enough to be inserted straight into the starting XI. Paulinho flew back from Boston, which is about as short a flight overseas as you can get from London. He absolutely needs to start in the middle of the park. Lamela didn't even play for Argentina, so I see no reason for him not to start, either. A long flight isn't going to impede him from creating chances on the pitch. AVB needs to play him. The same thing goes for Eriksen. We need his dead ball capabilities more than any continuity in the squad.

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Paulinho Dembele
Eriksen
Lamela Soldado Chadli
The above is our strongest eleven going forward, and at home, they would cause Norwich all kinds of problem. Starting Sigurdsson, Townsend and Sandro is a recipe for a turgid affair, where we will create virtually no chances for Soldado and will risk losing via a Van Wolfswinkel header against the run of play.
AVB needs to be bold and play our best 11. I think he gets that, judging from his comments today about Lamela and Eriksen featuring in some way. Does anyone think Wenger won't start Ozil on Saturday? Or do you think Pelligrini will not play Aguero or Zabaleta? We've got to play our best players. We kept Dembele and Lloris on the bench for Norwich at home last year and that game was the difference between us being in the Champions League or not. Let's not repeat that mistake!
Fully agree on us having to play our best players. Based on AVB's press conference though, I think Eriksen will start while Lamela doesn't. I expect Eriksen to line up as the left part of a midfield triangle with Paulinho more or less next to him and Sandro behind them. Team will look like this:

...........Lloris...........
Walker.Daws.Vert.Rose
...........Sandro.........
.......Paul....Eriksen...
Townsend........Chadli
..........Soldado.........

1) would prefer Lamela over Townsend, but AVB indicated the former won't be involved from the start.
2) Hope to see Younes taking Dawson's spot in the coming weeks.

Interesting to see you didn't pick Sandro as covering midfielder, TH1239. He's better defensively than Dembele and will be needed in my opinion. Norwich will likely line up 4-4-1-1 again:

...............Ruddy...................
Whittaker.Bassong.Turner.Garrido
.........................................
Snodgrass.Fer.Johnson.Redmond
.............Elmander...............
.........Van Wolfswinkel..........

It will be Sandro's job to control the middle of the park defensively. Their biggest threats are the flanks however. (Only 11 % of the chances created against S'ton were through the center) Snodgrass and Redmond will be their main men to provide attacking impulses from the wings. The former will produce the crosses (13 crosses v S'ton), while Redmond will be more direct, running at Walker an trying to create opportunities. (4 chances created against S'ton) Not rocket science the crosses will be aimed at Ricky and Elmander, who are both good headers of the ball.

Their stat of conceded chances shows us where the opportunities can be found for us. They've conceded 6 chances from their left side so far, 14 from their right side and 8 through the center. Their right side is their most recognized weakness. Big game for Chadli coming up trying to exploit this.

So to summarize: If we can neutralize their danger from the wings and attack their flanks, we should win this game comfortably.

Really looking forward to this game. I think Spurs will line up with
GK - Lloris
LB - Rose
CB - Vertonghen
CB - Kaboul
RB - Walker
CM - Sandro
CM - Paulinho
AM - Townsend
AM - Holtby
AM - Lamela
CF - Soldado

Subs
Friedel, Naughton, Dawson, Dembele, Eriksen, Chadli, Defoe

Kaboul has had some more time to get match fit so I think now might be a time he will start to get some games and further build an understanding with Vertonghen.

I went with Holtby over Eriksen as Holtby would have had more time training with the first team while Eriksen was on International duty (also no Siggy as he had a dead leg and might as well be rested). But if needed Eriksen can come off the bench.

I think we are OK to have a left footed player playing wide on the left of an attacking 3 as that player can go out wide and deliver crosses if needed (one our first game Lennon played on the right and the 4-2-3-1 formation still worked), so I think Townsend might start on the left over Chadli. Also Townsend seems to be worthy of a starting place going by his performances in the recent run of games.

That leaves Lamela on the right of the attacking midfield 3 which would allow him to cut in and join in the attack with Soldado.

The other thing is that a few players in that starting line up didn't play during the International break (Rose, Kaboul, Sandro, Townsend and Holtby) so they will have had more time to rest and those that were not called up (Rose, Kaboul, Sandro and Holtby) got more time working with AVB (and the rest of the Spurs coaching staff) and whatever his plans/tactics are for the next game.

DM AM DM

RWF Soldado LWF
This is perhaps just stating the obvious but I imagine we all agree on Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Rose and Soldado all starting tomorrow, with the rest likely to be:
Dawson or Kaboul for RCB
2 of Sandro, Paulinho, Dembélé and Holtby (if not AM) for DM
Eriksen (if not LWF) or Holtby (if not DM) for AM
Lamela or Townsend for RWF
Chadli or Eriksen (if not AM) for LWF

Everyone seems to have different teams.

RB, LB and Verts pick themselves. Can't work out if he'll stick with Daws or go for Kaboom.

Obviously Soldado starts and he's hinted heavily that Lamela won't so that leaves Chads and Townsend supporting, so it's down to the midfield three. I hope he's brave, drops Dembele and plays Eriksen just ahead of Paulinho and Sandro

Sandro-------Dembele(off)

This could be very close to what actually happens tomorrow. Well played!

I'd like to see us go with this..

Lloris

Walker, Kaboul, Verts, Rose

Paul & Sandro

Lemala - eriksen - townsend

Soldado

Have a feeling midfield two could be Dembele and Paul, rather than Paul and Sandro.

That's my ideal team too but AVB has hinted very heavily that Lamela won't start so I expect that team just with Townsend at RW

Yep, understandable though, big culture change for him, especially as he doesn't speak english.

Towsend on the right, Chadli on the left - although I'd probably prefer to see Lennon/Townsend on both wings at the moment.

Appreciate Lennon doesn't give the final ball, but he is dangerous at creating - Think Chadli needs a little more time with the squad, and this game will need lots of pace to catch them out.

Redmond is tricky, he's been very lively for them and I watched him for the under 21s. Much like Townsend, he loves to cut in and shoot.

I think he'll be their biggest threat. Although their two forward types are good in the air, I think we'll handle them easily enough.

Snodgrass does have a good delivery so set pieces could be a problem area, but really we should be causing them far more problems.

I think we'll definitely win this game IF we stick an AMF on the pitch. I'll be heavily dissappointed if there's 3 CM on the pitch again.

For me Eriksen or holtby has to start

Oh most certainly. Playing the 4-3-3 with no genuine attacking midfielder will play in to Norwich's hands.

Eriksen or Holtby have to start, we need genuine service for Soldado - and simply need more attacking cohesion collectively.

I would swap Townsend for Chadli and would be happy to go with this. I like Townsend but I think his best performances have come from being more of a forward rather than a winger and I think him being on the left side might limit that. I think the key for us is not to rely too much on balls in the box from wide positions and concentrate on picking holes through the middle or driving from distance.

Agree, Norwich will set up shop and go for the break/set piece route of scoring - we will see a lot of that this year.

Need to break them down - and whilst wing play does and can be effective, it's through the middle that will really count.

That's definitely the team I would pick, if said player's havn't been affected too much by long distance travel.

TBF these days laying down, drinking bolly and eating canape's whilst watching movies in 1st/business class isn't really as taxing as you might think ;)
