He needs a new club.

Not just now..... It would leave us with Soldado, and Kane, with Ade that isn't training or wanting to be here.

Even though we have better players than Defoe, we still need him just now, so give him games in case anything happens to Soldado or needs a rest. Also if he scores when playing we may bump up a price some January or next summer window ;)

I think we definitely need Defoe to start and I'm confident he will start. Kane just played on Monday so while it would be nice to get him some match minutes on a bigger stage than the U21s, it's far more important to keep Defoe fresh.

Rose, Paulinho, Dembele and Vertonghen need to be rested in my mind. Rose due to being our only true LB. Paulinho because he needs a rest after two weeks of over 230 minutes between Brazil and our match against Norwich City. Dembele, as mentioned, due to his ongoing hip ailment and also because a fresh Dembele against Cardiff City is a huge bonus. And, Vertonghen needs to have the night off because he's just so valuable to our style of play that I'd hate to see him go down with injury as a result of a match against Tromso at home.

So, since I already made a lineup but it included Chiriches whom obviously won't be playing due to the work permit, I'll make a new lineup.

-------------------------------- Friedel --------------------------------
Naughton ------- Dawson ----------- Kaboul ------------- Fryers
---------------------- Sandro ---------- Holtby ----------------------
Lamela ---------------------- Eriksen ------------------- Townsend
----------------------------------- Defoe ------------------------------

I elected to play Holtby and Sandro in the midfield but I'd expect it to look much more like a 4-3-3 with Eriksen and Holtby in front of Sandro to function as our playmakers but with Holtby obviously taking up the more B2B role. I'd love to be able to rest Townsend, but I think he needs to experience the match playing on the left because once Lamela stakes his claim on the RW position, it may be his best shot to break into the squad. Unfortunately, with Defoe in there it defeats the purpose of having a left-footed player on the left as the main bonus would be crossing ability.

For me, the defense picks itself. Friedel needs to stay fresh as I fully expect him to start in the C.O.C. which is an important and tricky match. Dawson and Kaboul should make up for the youth of Fryers. Naughton should be fine at RB.

We have fantastic depth on the whole. Unfortunately, we do have 4 guys out this game either due to minor injuries or because of a work permit. We can still put an incredibly strong squad out there, but it will have to come at the cost of playing some important players.
Yes I like the look of this. Kaboul, Sandro, Holtby, Lamela and Defoe all need games to get match fit so this home game against not the toughest, on paper, of opposition should fit the bill very well. I really hope Lamela has an outstanding game and Sandro and Kaboul come through ninety minutes looking strong

According to Skysports Chiriches may now have his work permit so not sure if that means he can be in the team tonight.

Hope so as it would be good to give him a run out.

Do Tromso have any good players, does anyone know?

Taken from the match thread.

Based on yesterdays traning, Tromsø will line up like this:

----------------------Sahlman-------------------

Causevic---Koppinen------Fojut----Kristiansen

-------------Johansen----Pritchard-----------

Moldskred---------Bendiksen------------Drage

--------------------Ondrasek-------------------

This would mean that the rumors of them considereing to rest important players can be shelved. Can't see to many threats here. Moldskred used to be somewhat pacy, and will probabably look to get in behind our high line. Drage is a more tricky winger with useful crossing abilities.
Ondrasek is a poacher.
Kristiansen is a quite quick player that's been mentioned as a contender for the national team.
Koppinen is the guy that equalised for Rosenborg against Chelsea at the Library some years ago, prompting Abramovich to give Mourinho the sack.

I reckon their main approach will be to whack the ball in behind our high line, and obviously make the most of set pieces (Johansen and Drage will deliver decent "serves") with Koppinen and Ondrasek the main threats.

Should be a piece of cake, though. 4-0 Spurs.

Assuming Chiriches has his work permit...

Friedel
Naughton Chiriches Kaboul Fryers
Sandro Holtby
Lamela Kane Townsend
Defoe
If Chiriches hasn't got his work permit then i'd stick Stewart in and move Fryers to CB.

I really don't see AVB giving any of the u21s a run out unfortunately (Aside from Fryers if we're counting him)

Pretty sure Paulinho will play against Cardiff meaning he won't be in the team tonight.

Depth at left back is glaring.

I know people said Vertonghen can cover, but that's no good when you have 3 games in 6 days and Vertonghen is in the first 11.

Even if Rose was our first choice; which I don't have a 'massive' problem with; it was a very poor decision to let BAE go without a replacement.

I hope it doesn't come back to haunt us.

One injury to Rose and we're up shits creek big time; Verts is exposed massively at LB by pacey wingers.

Rose and Paulinho need resting for this game given the upcoming fixtures. Holbty definitely deserves a start and I really want to see what Lamela can do.

One thing I definitely do not want to see is Lloris rested just for the sake of giving our back-up keeper a game. We need our back four to develop a next to psychic understanding of our keepers positioning/behaviour and vice versa. The more time Lloris spends with our regular back four and with getting to know the strengths and limitations of our second string defenders the better. It's not like he's going to get knackered spending 90 mins on his goal line. Friedel is a different kind of keeper and playing him has absolutely no benefit for the team. The only person it benefits is Friedel. I love the guy but he's a very well paid professional and his duty is to the team, not himself.

tromso:

lloris
walker kaboul vertonghen rose
sandro holtby
lamela eriksen siggy
soldado

cardiff:

lloris
walker dawson vertonghen rose
paulinho dembele
townsend eriksen siggy
soldado

thoughts: paulinho needs a rest and dembele shouldn't be risked against tromso. eriksen will get as much playing time as possible. siggy gets playing time in both because of his form. kaboul can only play once a week, so he'll play europa. AVB has shown he doesn't like to use weakened sides in europa so i think the teams will be fairly similar.

I'm thinking...

lloris
walker kaboul vertonghen rose
sandro holtby
lamela eriksen siggy
soldado

Lamela and Eriksen to play 60-70mins. Paul and Moussa need a rest before swansea. Holtby deserves a chance to prove his worth and siggy is in great form so shouldn't be dropped imo.kaboul and sandro to get much needed match time, with townsend coming on for Lamela...
