The general concensus of the team to start against Cardiff City on Sunday seems to be something like :

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vertonghen, Naughton
Sandr Paulhino
Lamela/Townsend, Erikssen, Sigurdsson/Townsend
Soldado

So if we want to play none of that team , we could start against Aston Villa with something like :

Freidal
?? Kaboul, Chiriches, Fryers
Dembele, Holtby
Chadli,, Kane, (one from Lamela/Townsend/Sigurdsson)
Defoe

So we could be only one short - at RB !

The assumption on injuries is that Rose, Lennon and Capoue are still out injured with Adebayor still training.

Is that a strong enough team against Aston Villa ? Should some of the team starting against Cardiff also start against Aston Villa 2 days later ? Next match against Chelsea on Saturday, so want to keep most of the Cardiff team rested for that ?

Think we'll be in a better position tomorrow evening to speculate on this. Tricky right now :)

Surely Kaboul for Dawson, assuming the former doesn't start tomorrow and the latter does?

I'd prefer Kaboul to play against Chelsea than Dawson tbh, hence why he's not there.

I think Lloris starting on Thursday is a sign of things to come in the other cup competitions and how seriously we are taking them.
Judging by AVB's comments it seems like Rose won't be out for too long so I won't be surprised if he's back in time for the Villa match.
Dawson won't play 3 matches in 5days so he'll be benched too.
Can't see Sandro playing as he'll be starting against Cardiff and Chelsea, and I can't see him laying a midfield of Dembele and Holtby so I expect Paulinho to start.
I don't think Lamela will start against Cardiff, I think AVB is going to ease him in so he'll be saved for Villa.

Lloris
Walker Chiriches Kaboul Naughton
Dembele Pauulinho
Lamela Holtby Chadli
Defoe

Bit early, have to see starting line up tomorrow and possible injuries from the game and then wait for news regarding some players on the treatment table, at least Chadli might have chance of featuring.

If Benteke is out, we can get by with 2 CBs that are more about pace and technique as opposed to playing two big, ball winners in the more brutish mold. I think Kaboul and Chiriches would be magnificent together and it'd allow Chiriches to face an EPL side.

Villa will have plenty of pace with Agbondlahor in the side, so Chiriches and Kaboul should be the answer. Kaboul can deal with Benteke like strikers, and i'll be good to see how Chiriches faces a (slightly depleted) Pl side, although we know he's looked good against Chelsea in CL.

Chadli shows by Spurs training with Vlad, so lilkely to be available for Villa.

Capoue was injured on 1 September with initial estimates being 3 weeks out : if he's back it would be fantastic, but suspect it could be another week or so, otherwise we could be rushing players back.

Rose - after risking our only LB against Tromso, I'd hope he's saved for the Chelsea match even if he is OK for the Villa game.

So, other than Chadli don't see previously injurued players affecting the Villa line up. Hopefully there will not be any v Cardiff.

I dont think AVB hugely cares and I would bring on Milos he has been our best defender how about we reward his good progress.

Think we should be playing a few u21 players for this one. Fryers, Fredricks, should def play if there availble as the full back position is where we are short of numbers at the mo

Well, at least Kaboul (if fit), Chiriches, Fryers, Sandro, Lamela and Holtby should play. Wether they start vs. Chelsea doesn't matter that much, there is enough between games, but those who've worked on both UEL and tonight should rest, prefer to rest also most of those who started tonight. Reckon Walker is fit enough to start and as Naughton played on both, he shouldn't start. If Defoe and Chadli are fit, there is almost XI there.

Friedel/Lloris, Walker, Kaboul, Chiriches, Fryers, Sandro, Holtby, Lamela, Chadli, Defoe. One slot to choose from our midfielders/flank players, Siggy probably out of picture having started both games, Dembele too. Bit more tricky if Defoe and Chadli aren't available.

Hope Lamela starts, off to the game and would love to see him play! Think he'll get a full game too considering he didn't play too much today

In post Cardiff interview, AVB said most of the players who featured in Wales wouldn't be able to play against Villa -->

With that in mind, I'd expect to see something like:

Lloris

Walker Chiriches Kaboul Fryers

Holtby Sandro

Lamela Kane Townsend

Defoe

Bentaleb will get a run out for sure. Kane looked good today, held the ball up well and managed some telling crosses. If defoe is fit he should start, if not Kane can deputize as a Lone fwd.

so

Friedel
RB --- Chiriches --- Kabs --- Fryers
Sandro---- Bentaleb
Lamela----- Holtby------ Kane/Youth player
Defoe/Kane

Forgot about Milos, i wonder if he can play RB/LB as well. I've seen him do extremely well as a Deep lying playmaker/anchor man for the U-21's. All in all i think this can serve us well to offer the youth players some first team exposure in the cups.
