Personally I am disappointed in Soldado so far, his hold up play isn't that good and his first touch is poor at times. However I do believe the team still needs a lot of settling in, it's very early days and we need to learn to play to our strengths. I hope Soldado gets on the scoresheet soon, he needs to get some confidence in England.

His not exactly getting a lot of service...most of our chances are pot shots or where the ball is pulled back for a late midfield run.

I think its natural he looks a bit rusty and a little lacking in confidence when he is yet to be played in one on one yet!

Gutted there is even a thread on this subject. Get a grip people and give him time.

He is cool and calm on the ball with a shit load of confidence, plus he is a winner with a winners mentality.

Stop getting your nickers in a twist and moan about something else....

Start Defoe against West Ham and give Soldado the start against Anzhi. Let him smash a few in and hopefully get his confidence flowing.

It's funny but after watching some of Defoe's goals this season I've thought "I wish Soldado was given that service so we can see what he's made of". We haven't been able to give him the service we've given Defoe so far, putting him in one on one with the keeper. My only concern is that maybe Soldado just isn't making the right runs or is trying to come deep for the ball too much.

I'm more frustrated with Defoe to be honest.

Looks like a world-beater when he's not in the team but as soon as we start giving him full games he'll start to disappear again.

AVB knows this.

I honestly don't think he will able to hack it in this league as a lone striker.

The argument is that he done that role in Spain last year. But the premier league is something different.

He's a decent player but more of a poacher for me.

In England I think he needs to play off another striker and try and forge a good old fashioned partnership with someone.

If we play 1 up top and there is no way this will change I'm sorry but £26m for Soldado will be seen as a flop.

If we are going down this road then I think we need to get Adebayor back in the team ASAP

I don't know why your post got negative rep .

A motivated Adebayor with Defoe or Soldado alongside should get a lot of goals . Question is what do we have to sacrifice to get them on the pitch at the same time ?

I watched him fairly closely and his work rate was decent and he received a lot of balls on his chest and layed them off quickly .

The first match I saw him play he completed a cross field pass than not many strikers could do .

There is something else we should be asking ourselves .

Should Spurs really be starting with only 1 upfront at home or is it just too defensive ?

I've seen enough times where he could and should have been found, but someone got greedy and tried a pot shot from distance. We've a lot of new players or players on the fringe trying too hard to make a name for themselves at the expense of picking Soldado out. There's some clearly playing as individuals to try to force a regular spot.

I'm happy with Eriksen, Holtby, & Lamela as they haven't done this and for them clearly the team/football comes first, and picking out the right option is a strong attribute of theirs. They look for it.

Some occasional opportunity wasters have been Paulinho, Dembele, Siggy, though this is fine on occasion (as they do and as can be expected positionally).

But at the wrong end of the spectrum there has commonly been Townsend (though looked better at doing the right thing today) and Chadli. Both, to this date, the oft used 2 wide-to-inside attackers outside the central Soldado.

[Obviously Defoe is not worth mentioning because he's been doing it 9/10 his whole career, but he is an out and out striker in his defense].

It's early days though, and hopefully new and not yet established players settle/learn/change their attitude.

I don't think Soldado has been bad, I just think his support isn't there yet. I'd imagine he's getting a little pee'ved by the individual-prioritising/greed of at least a few team mates.

Your first sentence .

If you played Soldado in the European and League Cup games he would have scored more than Defoe, if you played Defoe in all the league games he would have missed both penalties.

You know you don't gave to protect one player by slagging another player off!

For what it'd worth next Sunday I would have Soldado leading the line, h will come good!

I agree that it's disappointing that this thread Ben exists.

Some people are too eager to make a knee jerk judgement.

This is a knee jerk thread.
I am embarrassed.
Next time before anyone feels like calling opposing fans dumb, thick etc, just visit this thread.

This isn't a knee jerk thread. This is someone with the bollox to make a thread about something most Spurs' fans are secretly thinking as well, but too afraid to admit.

No-one wants to take the gloss of our Bale re-investment / solid start to the season.

He doesn't currently warrant a 26m price tag. I do of course hope that changes, but I would (and I think most spurs fans) would be lying if they said they'd been impressed with him so far. He's been distinctly average i'd say, hasn't done anything that has at all made me think "wow, that's why we dished out 26m on you!!"..

Things will get better for him though - here's hoping anyway!

What about someone who draws defenders with him, opening up the space for others to run into and score an injury-time winner.

I keep on reading about this particular moment from people who are in defence of soldado. This is soldado-tinted glasses at its best. He was merely running to get the ball! Nothing at all to do with him opening up space for paulinho.

And today he was really really poor. Heavy passing and poor holding. The one moment he tried to dribble his way past, he looked awkward and somehow we knew he was going to lose the ball.

I hope he improves, and fast. He surwly does not look like an expensive player.

If defoe had played like this for the last 6 games, no one in their right mind would say that he is a clever player who needs clever players to help him out.
