Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Paulinho Dembele
Lamela Eriksen Townsend
Soldado

Its a squad game yes but I think, bar any new signings in january, this will prove to be our best XI this season. Backline speaks for itself. I am a dawson fan but kaboul is certainly a better player and i hope hes in the first team by mid season the latest. Dembele and Paulinho have formed a great partnership in the middle. Dynamic powerful but also are both technically great and have decent passing range. Its not as defensively sound as say sandro or capoue but I think for the majority of games, especially at home, this is the best CM pairing we have.

The wings will be Lamela and Townsend with the former primarily on the right but also switching flanks with townsend. Lamela is obviously a great player and probably the best we have individually. Townsend has honestly stunned me with his improvement. He is such a threat going forward with his turn of pace and acceleration. Eriksen and Soldado up front :)

I like that team...that's one hell of a creative Spurs team! The good thing is that I see that working against most of the teams we play, and they'll get plenty of game time to work together as an attacking unit . But, Chels, City, and away to the likes of United and 'Pool, we need Sandro sometimes and lose Townsend or Lamela just to keep control of midfield and keep possession. It actually helps both in attack and defence. Damn...I haven't even worked Capoue into this equation yet! We have got one f---ing squad!

Sandro will find his way in somehow, otherwise I agree. Dawson in for Kaboul, Daws is the glue.

Agree with op. Sandro, Siggy, Saws and Capoue prob unlucky.

Thing is we will rarely get the chance to play our first team with injuries and schedule.

I am amazed with our depth, besides left back and striker (if ade gone). If ade comes back, our strikers fine.

Dembele keeps up his recent form and he's the first name on the team sheet for me. Absolute no brainer.

Kiss any real title chances we have away if Dawson plays over 30 games

Dawson is certainly not 'the glue', he's a relatively weak link in a strong team. But to say that we can kiss title chances away if he plays most games is silly. There isn't a single team that looks infallible in defence, and we've done fucking well so far with Dawson in the side. The reason we're not top of the league now is due to not scoring enough goals, not defence errors.

only the back 5 picks itself i think - lloris; walker, kaboul, vertonghen, rose

i really don't mind who starts in the front six positions, they each have their own qualities, apart from chadli who i'm not feeling yet.

That's the beauty of our squad, I don't think we have an absolute best XI

However, if I had to choose, I would choose this:

Lloris
Walker- Kaboul- Vertonghen- Rose
Paulinho- Dembele
Lamela- Eriksen-Chadli
Soldado
Subs (just for fun): Friedel, Chiriches, Sandro, Capoue, Lennon, Townsend, Defoe
Edit- I would now swap Lennon for Holtby and this would mean that Lennon, Dawson, Naughton, Sigurdsson and Adebayor would not get into the 18 for a match

"Stength in depth" to quote Chelski fans

As they used to say in Tesco, horses for courses. Our best team is the one who can beat the opposition that day so everyone should be vying for a first team place.

Still don't see it. Why people think Kaboul, who can't play 90 minutes without injuring himself (as evidenced at least three times this very season), is a better option. Dawson might make some mistakes, but he's a terrific leader, a clean tackler and drives the team forward out of defence.

Well he's probably a better defender than our full backs. Can anybody name me a player who will step into the breach and promote Spurs' values? Verts and Lloris leaders in their second seasons at the club, Dawson has been here 10 years and it shows.

Sandro Paulihno
Eriksen
Lemala Lennon
Soldado

Obviously depends if Kaboul can prove his fitness. Harsh on Holtby and Dembele who I think is playing very well at the moment but that midfield 3 for me provides the perfect balance between defensive solidity, all round midfield play and creativity.

Also, Lennon and Lemala are vital for me. The guile and intelligent movement of Lemala and the raw pace of Lennon on the counter attack again provides balance and has all bases covered.

I also think Soldado needs these two players to bring the best out of him. Lennon's ability to stretch opponents and the fact that they are scared of him will free up space for him.
