Won't last for long?

Didn't AVB take us to 4th last season? With our highest points total in the Prem ever?

And we're 4th now? With our best start to a Prem season ever?

And you still want to say that's all about luck?

Really?

No I mean it...

Really?

Well no he didnt but Ill assume you mean 5th.

In fairness, we had the 5th best squad (arguable 4th) and the leagues best player last year, we didnt finish above anyone who wasnt weaker than us by finishing 5th. And we finished lower than the previous season.

This season we have arguable a better squad. You cant compare his achievements to Jol or Hoddle for instance who had laughable squads in comparison.

Given the 5th best squad last year, do you think any other manager could have got 5th?

This is Tottenham you mug

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

That really is the antithesis of what we're doing right now.

Having said that, I agree with those that say we should vocally support the club as much as possible when at the ground. Whenever I'm at a game I cheer our players on no matter who is playing or how they are playing.
Exactly. Your last game and mine, (you may have been since) but chatting in the Bell and Hare after the game, me you and RV, other than being gutted about the performance, what were we talking about. How shit the atmosphere was.

We have what should be a top 4 squad.

We are currently in the top 4.

And yes I did mean 5th (stupid post game drink fingers) but the point is that he got us the most points we've ever got in one season.

He's given us our best start ever despite our best player being sold and having to bed in lots of new players.

Anyone complaining is frankly being ridiculous.

I went today and admittedly the atmosphere wasn't amazing but I don't think it was awful either. The game in general wasn't the most exciting and we were slow in our build up play, Not that I don't really have a problem with that myself. I did moan sometimes admittedly but I heard a few boos today which is shocking really, we were 0-0 at half time and dominating the game.

I think you misunderstand the quote.

No, I understood. I don't care about how we win 12 out of 15, I only care that we won 12 out of 15. If this is us being "turgid" and boring the opponent to death, then I welcome turgidity and opponent genocide for eternity.

I think AVB is implying that the home atmosphere in general is a problem, even though he's talking about it today. He wouldn't risk saying something like that over one game if it was a complete one off.

Couldn't disagree more, supporting Spurs is supposed to be about glorious football not turgid 1-0 wins, that is the ethos of that horrible mob down the road.

Yep, the joy that was the loss to Fulham. Even being in the Park Lane it was like somebody had died. Compared to the 5-0 against Newcastle (which I was lucky enough to get to) shortly after the Harry to England rumours started up, the atmosphere couldn't have been more different.

No not had an opportunity to go up since then (way too much going on right now), but even if I'm concerned about how we're playing at the moment I'd still give AVB and all our players my full support.

you misunderstood the quote. Its saying the opposite.

The worst thing mourinho ever did was introduce the concept that successful football has to be turgid, negative and cynical. It doesnt.

We arent winning because of that. We are winning because we have a much better side,

Dont believe the hype, we could be winning just as consistently and playing proper football.

SO if he has a top 4 squad and we are around the top 4 what is he doing thats so amazing.

So we are winning in spite of AVB and any tactics he employs? Perhaps we should sack him and bring in Pullis to prove your theory.

Exactly buddy. Thats exactly what I said in my earlier post on the subject. I'm not over the moon with how we are playing, but my support vocally will never waiver

Another thing, not sure if it's been mentioned but I genuinely believe all this Sunday football adds to the negative atmosphere. Most people have got work the next morning and I think it's subconsciously in the back of their minds and affects the atmosphere. When the game becomes dull, my mind wanders to the fact that I won't get home til 8pm and the weekend's over. I still sing and cheer but I'm brilliant, others aren't as brilliant as me.

With a Saturday match, you always feel that you've still got Saturday night to look forward to and a whole day off the next day (for most of us) and you can relax and enjoy yourself more at a game. I really believe all these Sunday games are affecting the atmosphere.

Or it isn't. Either way. Meh.

It's true what he said but should he have said it?

Is it going to make it better next home game?

Our movement was so bad and i'm sure that some players are hiding at home, because a lot of our movement seemed token, and not like the player moving really wanted the ball.

The trouble with introducing so many new players is that the grace period for those players shortens, if we only had a Lamela and a Soldado for example then we would be watching them seeing signs of what they could do, looking out for the good things the positives to take forward and how they're fitting into the team, but instead we have 7 players (some of) who play now and then and people seem to be looking for the negatives in everything they do, this is not a situation i have ever seen at Spurs (or anywhere for that matter)

When it is quiet then those groans when a player goes backwards are all too evident to players, and decisions become clouded and made with fear, which we all know makes poor football. And it's often a factor why bigger teams struggle against the lesser teams, as the crowd need the players to lift them but the players need the crowd behind them.

I get what you're saying. Free alcohol before the game? Perhaps we should email the club.

Interesting idea, bomber. I can see how that would be a factor.
