That plain white puma shirt was the best kit we've had in years, the Rafa kit from the season before gives me a semi though due to what we did that season. That season review DVD is possibly the filthiest DVD in my collection.

All about the season really. The piss streaks kit was awful but when I see it I think of the great season, the emergence of Bale, beating Arsenal, Chelsea and City in the space of a few games.

By contrast the beautiful plain white Puma kit is fantastic to look at but just reminds me of us pissing away a 13 point lead and somehow achieving nothing with Luka, Bale, King, Parker, Rafa and Good Ade all playing.

Would be ideal to have a good kit and a good season but at the end of the day it's a pretty trivial thing, the season will make the jersey,

You see, this is the crux of the problem: I feel strongly that this statement just isn't true. Perhaps the reason why I keep repeating myself is because I keep seeing this line over and over and over again and to me it's just not the case.

For example: most people liked last year's kit- including me. Was it perfect? No. But was it, overall, pleasing to the eye? Yes. You think so, I think so, MOST people think so. And they thought so when it first came out. There were NOT a "bunch of varying opinions," there were NOT "a bunch of people who hated it"- on the contrary, pretty much everyone really liked it!

Same with the kit the year before that (UA's first attempt)- you liked it, I liked it, most people liked it. And in fact you know which particular shirt out of the three most people really liked two seasons ago? Why, the away shirt- that navy blue "Aurasma" shirt of course! The one that looked incredible!

Do you know which shirt most people liked the least from that campaign?

Answer: the 3rd shirt (the black and grey one). Most people just didn't like that shirt.

How about last season- which was the shirt most people liked? The answer- of course- is the third shirt, which was clearly the pick of the litter.

Tottenham+13+14+Third+Kit+1.jpg

The home shirt was the second favorite of most people, and the light blue away top came in a distant third.

Now you're going to say "how do you know this? What proof do you have?" The answer: none. I just know from reading people's opinions and trusting my gut. I mean think about it: could you seriously try and argue with me that that black-and-grey number from two seasons ago wasn't the least-liked shirt of that year?

Look- brother- there's no way to "prove" I'm right; an in fact even if I did a poll I'd have people claiming that "it's only SCers- and SC doesn't represent Spurs fans" (even though I highly disagree). But regardless, I will forever maintain that there IS an overall consensus when it comes to how our kit looks- so that even though someone has a friend who loves that black-and-grey kit, we all know full well that most of us hate it. Just like we all know that everyone and their mother reviles that piss-streak Mansion home shirt from 2009-10 (the fact that we made Champions League in it notwithstanding).

My point is that people aren't stupid- most can see when something looks good, and when something doesn't. So no, people don't "hate the kit every year." People like the kits that look good and don't like the ones that don't. This year is a giant "don't."

To further prove my point: I would bet any amount of money that you couldn't come up with a negative comment regarding our first "Investec" Cup shirt if you tried. There isn't a Spurs fan alive who doesn't like this shirt:

The only reason I like that shirt is the crest. To me it's just a boring white polo, same reason I don't like USA home jersey. I don't want them doing something crazy like Warrior have done but I have liked what UA has put out. I liked the silver and I like the yellow bits in this years kit. I know not everybody will like this but I also know that many will. My problem with your post (all of them I'm fact) is that you think you speak for everybody. My guess is the kits will sell just fine.

there are always negative comments about the kits, i'm pretty sure. last season was "why has it got a fucking tie on it?" and "colour of the sponsor ruins it!". the navy kit had comments like "what are those fucking chequers all about" and the baby blue was met with the usual derision. the year before was people moaning about the collar and the silver strips, whilst the blue kit was awash with with "who the fuck decided to stick some chevrons on the back of it?" and of course everyone hated the black/grey kit. personally i find it difficult to get offended by kits. some look better than others but ours aren't terrible and never have been.

Of course - we rarely have kits I actually like, but it's not important.

Its a football season not a year long fashion show - as long as we are performing well on the field we could wear the worst kits ever seen for all I care

TBF he was talking about the training gear. Not much else he could add about it.

So did everyone hate the 90s kit Klinsmann wore just because it had yellow trim on the sleeves?

Hmm probably not!

I like that United kit aside from the sponsor. With the sponsor it looks like some kind of weird Iron Man thing going on. They should have just had the word Chevrolet without the image.

Are you the old kit designer from Puma that lost his job? Your other 97 posts are the same as this one and you're starting to sound like a jilted lover. I can't believe anyone is seriously as upset as you seem to have been since the kit first got leaked.

I don't think you realise that every season on this board for the first month or so of the season, the vast majority of posters in the kit thread hate the new kit. Go back and look at the old threads, I'm not making it up. By the time we've played a few games in it, the opinions start to change and by september nobody gives a withered bollock if there's a stripe out of place or if that certain shade of blue is too light for them to handle.

At the end of the day we're here for football not fashion. If we have a good season in this kit it will be remembered fondly and if we have a bad one it will be forgotten.

I actually really liked the first two under armor home shirts when they were released, but I don't like this one. I know the post you quoted was for a different reason, but I think it's definitely the case that this year's one isn't as good as the last two. I also thought the away one two years ago and the third one last year were really nice. I didn't like last year's away and the first year's third. Seems that Under Armor make one really bad kit each year, and this year it's the home one (assuming the away and third are good haha).

Rated your post agree because I agree with the vast majority of it, but I would say that imo (and I think a lot of people agree), that kit was far too plain and the collar on it isn't very good. Both the Under Armor kits in your post are far nicer, as (imo) were our last two home kits.

I think what happened this year, as another poster suggested, was that the kits were focus grouped (the Asian girl wearing it probably part of a focus group, since we see Asia as the biggest potential market). So I'm guessing that our kit was probably influenced by focus groups made up of people who aren't Spurs fans and who have probably never seen any of our prior kits or know anything about THFC. The reason we don't like the kit is because it kind of violates what we have worn traditionally, but I can easily see how people would choose it as the best looking kit without the personal attachment to some historical template. Idk I may be talking shit but I think if you presented each shirt to people who aren't Spurs fans just to wear as a regular shirt that a large number of them may choose this shirt.

We, on the other hand, are expecting something pretty specific and when that expectation is violated we don't like the shirt as a result. Anyway that's my thought on it.

I mocked up a couple new pictures to show what they might look like being worn by players, obviously ignore Defoe being in the picture it was just the best picture of a previous Spurs black kit I could find.

You just described why that kit is so freaking awesome. If it wasn't for that nasty looking button, I would probably consider switching teams next season :woot:
