1 year left on his contract and people are talking £8m and probably on a low wage, whilst Dawson @ £4m with longer left. I think it will be time to re evaluate Ron's cost tbh. Could be bargain bucket time and I don't think Villa would be able to keep him. It will be up to Ron who he chooses - probably a whole list of suitors though.

I think he would be a clever signing. The lad is an intelligent CB with leadership qualities.

Just looking at his injury records he did miss a month last season through calf and Hamstring problems. Good news is Pocho's training prevents strains and tears so there would be a good chance his injury problems would clear up.

Vlaar in current form is better than Dawson. He could be crucial, if Vlad is still plagued with his back injury.

I will Vlaar over Lascelles, simply because I know what to expect from Vlaar. I have no idea about Lascelles. We need a CB now & not in 2 years.

Very true plus chiriches is as weak as gnats piss and for fucks sake people stop saying vlaar is slow, he's quicker than any centre back on our books.

They hate us because we are exactly what they thought they were going to be, what a lot of them still feel like they should be: the biggest of the "smaller" clubs, knocking on the door of the top four. Instead after a couple years near the top they tumbled hopelessly down the table, now they're relegation favorites with no money at all, and we might take their captain and only good player (save Benteke) for most likely peanuts. Most football fans feel like their team "deserves" to be back wherever they were at the height of their (recent) success: Liverpool fans think they should be title contenders every year, Spurs fans think we deserve top four even though we aren't nearly one of the richest four clubs in the league, United fans cannot stand that they now not only have to compete with City but that sometimes City has a much better team. I'm sure somewhere there's an old Wolves fan who can't believe Chelsea are in the Champions League instead of them. Villa still remembers us being well below them several years ago when they were top four contenders, and they hate how drastically thats changed without us even having a sugar daddy owner for them to blame.

Saha and Nelson were only short term signings. I really dont see this "rebuilding from the back" situation as being short term.

Poch says he is here for the long haul and wants to take us to the top. Not sure a short term option is part of that plan.

Ron ticks a lot of boxes. But I'm not sure.

Good player and would not be upset if he replaced Daws.

I'd take him at Spurs over Dawson :)cry:), but just not for the deal that's doing the rounds... I really like Holtby and think he can do really well in Poch's system

I wonder if some people who are opposed to this transfer are the sort who just want us to sign some French African centre half who is 6f 3, and runs the 100m under 11 seconds. A defence needs organisation, and is most effective when it is greater than the sum of its parts.

Vlaar and 1 or 2 young CBs (depending on Chiriches leaving, I don't want him to leave but it wouldn't surprise me if he does) and we are set.

Going in for Vlaar makes zero sense to me (I was going to say all Dutch to me, but thankfully I resisted the temptation) as I'd struggle to think of a CB who would be less suited for what we know of Poch's system than Roncrete. Not a bad player, just not suited. And if we are going for a CB purely based on WC performances, I'd rather go for Gonzales of Costa Rica who I thought looked really good. And there are a fair few more I'd look at before Vlaar to be honest

Erik Lamela in the swap deal would be nice plus cash our way, he will go on to be a good player!! or even Lamela & Holby.. Wouldn't want Dawson!!

But all in all rather keep Vlaar

LoL!
