Disagree with bentley, he was all about the bigger picture. DL had an asking price and refused to drop - this isn't him penny pinching, its about reputation. Teams know now that when they bid for a player they have to pay near his asking price, whether he'll go for free or not. DL couldve got 5m for Bentley but he chose to let him go for free instead to keep that reputation solid, and its probably made us way more than that with deals like livermore ect
I agree-but conversely could it be why Krueger blanked the whole deal out of hand because he knows Levy is unlikely to increase by more than a million or so rather than the £17 million extra he dreams of?

I suspect supporters of many teams feel this way about their club. We follow our own clubs' transfers a lot closer than those of other clubs, naturally, so are more aware of those that drag on. Other clubs are likely having their own 'sagas' that we don't pay any attention to until their announced. City uploaded a video of Mangala weeks ago and still haven't announced him! United with Vidal, Hummels. I'm sure it's not just us, we're just more acutely aware of it.

Agree transfer drag on for most clubs but I bet if you check the history of deadline day spurs are at the top of the list with ins and outs

really wish people would stop talking bollocks in these threads when nothing whatsoever has happened! Hate clicking in here to see an extra 5 pages and think wow something is happening and then no, just people typing rubbish about what Levy may or may not have bid.

Anyway, I realise this is a forum so I guess my point is bollocks.......as you were.

I hope levy would learn from past mistakes. AVB wanted mounthino to be his midfield general, someone he trusted and it seemed a player tthat believed in AVB. I believe that Levy did not fully commit to securing him from Porto. I hope he doesn't do the same to Poch

Moutinho was unrealistic. We tried, but with the third party ownership and huge fee, agent fee and wages package, and the added complications of the deal, plus the fact that Moutinho wasn't exactly bothered about coming so didn't force the issue, it was never really a goer.

AVB did seem to lump his eggs into the players he wanted and wasn't prepared to really work hard with anything else.

This is totally different as the player is desperate to come, its a legit, straight-forward deal, in that there is only the player and Southampton to deal with. His wage package is well within our means.

The sticking point is Southampton's political situation and the inflation in his fee that this is creating. Also, it seems to me that Pochettino is pretty relaxed about getting him or not. As JJ says he's happy with the squad. If we can do it for a reasonable fee then fine, if we can't we won't and it seems that everyone (apart from maybe Schneiderlin) is happy with that. So why the beef?

Wouldn't the ITK section be a better place to obtain this info rather than a thread talking about him..?

This seems to our game plan on transfers recently. Agree deal with player and low ball the club knowing the players head has been turned

I don't think that it's just us doing it nowadays. It's the way of the footballing world.

I agree Mounthino was probably unrealistic, but why spend so much time chasing it. To me Levy played a game with AVB I treid but couldn't get agreement. This I feel was a big part of the break down between Levy and AVB. Just b honest with the manager. That's all

This makes no sense to me. You're saying we spent so much time chasing it but then saying Levy played a game with AVB there. I think by Levy spending that much time chasing it shows that he wasn't playing a game, he was trying. The issue with this falling through wasn't Levy, it was the whole third-party ownership and Moutinho not being that desperate for a move.

With MS it's different as MS clearly wants to come so there's that pressure there. There's also the whole circus that is Southampton. We're clearly trying to make this happen but Levy being a sensible business man he's not gonna pay too much more than he thinks MS is worth. It's as simple as that.

So...any sign of him at training today?

I'm not one to post random twitter bollocks, but this guy is a sky sports cameraman at their training ground today...

@SiCamHd: No sign of Morgan Schneiderlin yet though (not via the front gate!) #saintsfc

If he's refusing to train he should be fined his wages. In which case, we have him on our books for free until he decides to honour his contract or we can offload him to a non-champions League rival!

I guess it's not just Morgan's head which has gone. It's happened to all of them.

I'm pretty sure there's a maximum you can fine someone, meaning he can put in a half arsed effort in training, not play and still pick up his wages. Even in law, you can't force an employee to fulfil their contractual obligations.

I think the maximum is 2 weeks wages

I don't really get this. It wasn't the training that Schneiderlin's been missing out on is it? I thought he was training to keep himself fit, but not actually playing the games?

Exactly.

But Koeman supposedly issued him an ultimatum....saying he would need to report to training on Monday with the intention of carrying on as a Southampton player.

We won't know util next Sunday when they play Liverpool though. He could train all week and then declare himself unavailable at the end of the week, potentially.
