Sorry but that is an awful starting line up.

Piling on west Ham to win to soften the blow.

Not a great start poch!

Awful awful awful.

Care to elaborate why it's such an awful line up?

That is up there with the worst back 4 we've had in many years.

Where's Sandro?

I do like the look of the front 4 though.

Are people really surprised that players who have had no pre-season, under a new manager and new approach, are not involved today...

What were you expecting?

Like the team, strongest he good choose in my view. Little nervous about the back four but hoping Dier show's some quality.

Sorry but Holtby deserves to start. Apart from that I'm happy with the team.

He can be a headless chicken when pressing, its better that a more disciplined player is in the middle with Capoue.

Is that the Zarate that was a beast on CM back in the day and on fifa? For Lazio iirc.. now he's on the bench at wet spam?

Gutted for Holtby, just don't know what he needs to do to get a start, completely baffles me.

Anyway hoping for the best, COYS!

I'm not at all surprised Poch has chosen Bentaleb alongside Capoue for his first competitive selection.

If Poch could take Schneiderlin from competent and workmanlike to pushing for a start in the French national team, imagine what he can do with a talent like Bentaleb.

And if we can't do a deal for Schneiderlin this window, because Soton are asking for too much, we may not need to do a deal come January.

I also like the idea of Holtby's energy coming off the bench should we not come out filing on all cylinders. Bentaleb offers a bit more stability I think.

Can't believe the negativity already with some people. The Belgians and Paulinho are clearly not match fit yet. Dawson got injured v Celtic, so not fit enough start and so Dier starts. Not as if Carroll is playing is it? We should be fine. Bentaleb is a good young player and there'll be plenty of games for him and Holtby. This is only game one!

I think as long as Dier has experience next to him he'll be fine, if he was partnering Vlad then I'd worry but being next to Kaboul he should be ok.

I've always liked Holtby as an impact sub. Come on with 20-30 mins left and let him run around like an energized puppy dog while the opposition is losing their legs.
