HI everyone ,

I do not post very often but passively read all the rants and raves of everyone.

We are about to choose our new captain of our beloved club so am wondering what actually makes a good captain?

Certain values have to be within the player , obvious ones being are a natural leader someone being able to calm situations down and be a strong voice behind the scenes.
But in the modern game are other things also needed like being able to communicate in different languages and dealing with an ever changing 11.

My personal choice is not ideal as he is a keeper but then Lloris is the captain of France and for a reason.

Lloris, Vertonghen, Kaboul all work.

Fazio/Stambouli were captains at their club but because they're so new it wouldn't be right.

Lennon isn't a bad option either.

A captain should be a nailed on starter and sadly that shouldn't apply to Lennon anymore

Lennon club captain?:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I just mean that Lloris and Vertonghen probably aren't going to play too many Europa League games (in the group) or FA/League Cup game. At that stage, if Kaboul is also out, Lennon is a good choice for captain. I think a lot of the players do look up to him (not literally) and respect him.

Basically what I mean is.

1. Lloris
2. Vertonghen
3. Kaboul
4. Lennon

Kyle Walker or Sandro should be captain over Lennon.

I hope Lloris is captain but I think it'll be Kaboul(he's captained every game he's played so far) and it was the same way last year(when Dawson wasnt starting)

Leaders inspire, cajole, support, motivate and direct from the front, they show no fear and exude calmness under pressure - yes leadership....that quality that is so hard to find. Who at Spurs has the Bobby Moore qualities? Hard to tell.

In my view while Lloris is an obvious candidate it has to be an outfield player. Fazio, Capoue, Stambouli are all leadership types and have a bit of steel about them. Kaboul I am not sure of. I haven't seen him orchestrating anything really. Vertonghen seems too caught up in his own game. Dier is too young but I can see him as a leader as he gets older. He captained each of Sporting’s age-group XIs before breaking into the senior side, aged 19.

as stevenurse posted, it has to be a nailed on starter. The captain needs to be somebody the players look up to and look for. If the captainship rotates based on who's picked for any given game, it becomes meaningless. For me it's 100% Lloris until an outfield player with the same qualities cements himself in the starting XI. Verts?

Captain Birdseye had a big bushy beard, therefore it should be Sandro.
