Bentaleb is out of his depth. I do agree, there is now almost no vestige of Harry's Spurs team left... Kyle Walker, Aaron Lennon and Adebayor is all.

Good lad. Good luck.

Why? He has never fully recovered wither physically or in form since his injury. Pochettino favours midfielders who can do the defensive work themselves, but then transition into attack themselves. Sandro is the old type defensive midfielder who wins the ball and then has to look for the ball-playing midfielder to pass to, so that he can transition the play. It leads to faster transition of play - a key feature in Pochettino's system. Doesn't make Sandro a bad player.

Good lad.

If only we had midfielders who could win the ball back effectively or offer proper protection. It's all well and good being able to pass the ball forward but leaving gaps in front of our slightly shaky defence is going to be damaging.

Sandro is a hero. He had as many standout performances as players like Modric but got robbed when he was at his peak. I can only think that our medical staff know more about the injury than has been let on because if there is even the slightest chance he can make it back to his best we surely wouldn't have let him go at the expense of the players we have now.

Gutted.

I will seriously miss the guy and is the only player I can think of that I will watch and support after he has left the club.

Good luck mate.

Harry's got himself a team that'll stay up now. Think Joey Barton will be losing his place soon as well.

I say thanks to him for his years of service, a few important and cracking goals, and his unwavering determination.

I think though that the majority are sad to see him leave due to him being a "character", especially as the majority of the memories of him revolve around his off pitch antics and PR japes. Many will also be surprised to see us sell him on at such a loss, especially after the protracted transfer we went through to get him. But ultimately I think it comes down to his extended lay off through injury, but also that despite his commitment and mental fortitude, he didn't really ever prove himself to be much more than a "good" defensive midfielder.

But still, triffic lad, never a moments trouble, top top player... get's on well with Harry etc. Will do well for the hoops.

Can't agree with this. Over the last year that he hasn't played much this theory that he is well liked and become a 'fan favourite' because of his character has grown. The reality is though that he was such a monumental upgrade on the players we'd seen in his position before like Zokora, Huddlestone and Palacios (who was also a 'fan favourite' but lacked the defensive ability of Sandro).

Of the 100 or so games he played for us, he'd been named MOTM by SC around 20 times, that is a better ratio than any other player who has played for us over the last 5 years including the likes of Bale, Modric and VDV. Given that he was having standout performances in a side that had far more talented individuals than him (or than we have now) speaks volumes to the actual level of his performances.

Despite the common belief, he wasn't just a tackler but he was a very good defensive linchpin. He read the game remarkably well, cut out a lot of balls, positioned himself excellently to break down attacks or get his head on balls that would cause trouble going into the area in front of our defence, tracked opposition danger men and covered for our defenders when they were out of position. His interceptions, tackles and won headers often set us off on attacks and allowed players like Modric more freedom to express himself and not have to worry about getting caught out of position.

We'll miss Sandro not because he was a character, but because of the performances he gave and because we don't have a player capable of doing the things he did.

I think I read that only Sandro up till his injury had better interception stats that MS in the whole Epl.

In AVBs first season he won the ball more (tackles + interceptions) than any other player in the top five leagues up until he got injured early in january. In another forum i post in, he had such a lead in the "player of the year"-thread that Bale only just managed to edge past him in the end.

He was truly world class in that period, and it's sad that it ended this way.

I'm a bit torn. At one end, I wish him all the best, but if he regains that form and all our fitness worries were for nothing, I'll be cursing everything that is holy.

Our game at QPR could be unpleasant, Loftus Road is small, and there'll be nowhere to hide for our boys.

Fuck you, Daniel Levy. Fuck. You. You have completely destroyed any bit of confidence in you. Way to get rid of the fan favorites while keeping your favorite players even if Poch didnt want them. THis is a football club for the fans! Fuck off, Daniel. Really. Fuck off.

Idiotic and unnecessarily abusive post as usual.

Daniel Levy’s (and his manager’s) job is not to keep the fans’ favourites; it’s to build a football team and club capable of progressing. The jury’s obviously out on Pochettino but who are you to be abusive of Levy? A man who has taken this club forward and was in charge of Spurs while you considered football as a game played by overweight men in stupid helmets fitted in between Miller Light ads.

To address the mature posts, I am surprised at the unqualified sentimentality here. I loved Sandro as a player and he seems an awesome bloke but aren’t there alarm bells ringing if he’s sold to a low level Premiership team? I have seen bits of him over the last year but if Sherwood and Pochettino were unsure that he was good enough to play week in week out then selling him for a profit (I think) if there are concerns as to his fitness is not bad business when we have signed a replacement in Stambouli, with perhaps the possibility of Schneiderlin in January.

Sandro was great for us at the very least until his serious injury in January 2013 but we move on.

How? Sandro left and then Stambouli came in. If that's not a replacement job then what is.

Because they are different players, you wouldn't play Sandro and Capoue in the same team for example. Last season at Southampton Poch setup with Wanyama (holding mid) and Schneiderlin (Regista)

Capoue is like version of Sandro, both holding midfielders.

We were after Schneiderlin but couldn't afford him hence getting Stambouli instead.
