I just realised Kane has a ready made theme tune and maybe it suits him as some pundits are saying he's like an old fashioned centre forward ;)

The Kinks - Last of the Steam Powered Kanes

I love it. Too bad hardly anyone under 30 knows who The Kinks are.

Like many of us, I have been aware of Kane for what seems like forever but in reality is about 5 years. He always seemed to score goals and he was a big lad who went out on loan to develop him. The jury Was out as to whether he'd make it but nobody seemed to want to get him off our books. I saw him vs Hearts on TV, and bits and pieces for other clubs, but there were no signs he would definitely make it for us.

People comment on his lack of pace and other weaknesses. The thing about every footballer is they can't have everything. Some have size, others technique, others mental frailty, laziness, etc. Ronaldo is probably the nearest thing to the perfect footballing specimen in the modern era, physically and mentally. Bale is similar but further down the scale. Messi is awesome, tough but tiny, so limited in certain areas (winning headers).

Most people in life accept his/her weaknesses. Footballers are no different. But a minority of people and footballers don't accept what fate has dealt them. They have a special attribute, a kind of Dave Mackay-Roy Keane determination to conquer fate. It looks very much as if Harry Kane has some of this.

Firstly he clearly has a massive work ethic. He maximises his natural talents; his power and balance and ability have been worked on since he was a kid via endless training and playing. But secondly he has the intelligence and drive to work out areas he can develop to compensate for his relative weaknesses. No raw speed? Just think faster, gain the extra yard, use body and balance to beat naturally faster people. Not being played? Become so fit with so much stamina you can run 12ks in a match twice a week so you show up everybody else. Shooting? Do what very few strikers do and aim for the corners. It risks making you look like a wally with a low on-target percentage but if you practise enough it can be devastating. Above all, losing a match? Simply refuse to accept it. Lift your own game and those around you to victory.

There's a long way to go. Fireworks can fizzle out. But the incredible thing is the boy is only 21. Who knows what his all round ability can make him become?

One of the all-time best posts I've ever read on here.

Beautiful.

We rely on him so much which is a real concern. It's a great credit to him that he has taken the weight on his shoulders and still manages to perform. It does highlight the need for more players to step up or new signings to help carry some of the weight. If we can't get a single shot against a poor Burnley in an empty stadium without having to bring Kane on then we really do have problems. My concern is that we need him for all games League and Cup otherwise we struggle. He can't play every game though.

Absolute pleasure reading through this thread. We've looked bereft of identity ever since the Modric/VDV/Bale/King quartet was dismantled. That lack of identity looked set to continue throughout this season and beyond until Kane stepped forward. I love the big fucker, and I'm not ashamed to say that I long for his balls in my mouth.

Came on and gave the fans something to get on board with tonight and his holding back the pass in the build up the the goal showed great awareness. Missed a sitter right at the end though, couldn't believe it.

Landed himself a solid ScoutNation video (I was wondering when he'd get one):

Nice re-watching some of his goals to this point. Unfortunately there aren't any of his PL ones due to copyright. Them listing "decisions" as a weakness feels like a crime.

My girlfriend's brother went to the same school (Chingford foundation) and was in the same year as Harry Kane; so now he is the talk of the town it's only fair I asked my future brother-in-law stuff about Harry so I can be popular with the cool kids on SpursCommunity.

Me:

Alright ***** how are you mate? What do you remember about Harry Kane when at school with him and what was the name of the school? What was he like personality wise and do you remember any stories (football or other stuff) or maybe how he was at football? Did he get bullied or anything?

*****:

Yeah good mate , well have to say when we all use to be at the park getting drunk (200 strong) this guy no lie was there doing kick ups. he use to go in goal in a game at lunch with 100 people playing and would run it out take it passed everyone and score. he was alright guy he called me big head and I said his face looked like it was upside down, he was quiet ish but had bants was a nice guy don't think he was bullied at all just loved football was in my business and maths class so quite a smart guy

Bit harsh to call your brother in law a prick.

I really wish the press weren't sniffing around him so much at the moment and he was just left to develop on his own away from the spotlight. It's not that I think all the press will go to his head, more the fact that if he has a dip in form he could get some backlash from it. I think he has done incredibly well so far this season and is coming along nicely, but he still can and should develop further. He can't be carrying the team as he will likely buckle at some point, especially as we are playing so many games this season.

I'm delighted to say that Kane has proved me massively wrong :)

He has a bit of Teddy Sherringham about him.

I remember his first proper game for us in Europe I think? Maybe it was a cup game. It was a few years back. Generated much discussion on here. Missed a pen but looked very lively and had a self-assurance on the pitch. It was at that point that I decided to largely ignore his progress out on loan etc. So many home-grown strikers have shown something and done nothing down the years that I simply put it out my mind.

It's been great to see him this season hit his stride. He's not just a good striker. He's a good footballer with a footballing intelligence. He has an instinct of where to be and which play to make, be it a run or a pass. That leads me to believe this one is going to stick long-term.

I think many, especially those outside the club, may be hugging his nuts a little too tightly right now. If/when the inevitable dip younger players have arrives, I do hope there isn't a backlash.

I swear, I hadn't read any posts in this thread before typing my above post but yeah, exactly this. Leave him be. Let him grow because in a couple of years he could be a damn good striker. He just needs some experience and time to iron the kinks out.

Yep, you're correct and well done to him but....

It may be the making of him

I agree I'd rather he not be called up because I also fear it may have a negative impact on him, brighter spotlight, extra work load and potential to destroy his confidence if things don;t go well but equally it may further enhance his development and make him a better striker
