No big deal in saying he used to be an arsenal fan growing up. Liverpool and Everton often have players that play for one and supported the other. Doesn't mean he wanted to them to win against us and doesnt now. In fact respect to him for changing his allegiance after playing for us.

Given his age, it's hardly surprising he liked them, he'd be a bit odd if grew up in Wales liking Tottenham during that period

Not that odd. Sam Warburton is the same age as Bale and he is a Spurs fan.

Okay not odd but usually people either support a team because a) they're local b) their other family members or c) because they're good

None of those three applied at the time so it would have been a little unusual for him to support Spurs :)

Not too bothered, he also said recently that he always checks the premiership scores and hopes we win and Arsenal lose. Given his age, it's hardly surprising he liked them, he'd be a bit odd if grew up in Wales liking Tottenham during that period
Isn't his best mate in the rugby international team and a Spurs fan? :D Shame the rest support Liverpool and Manchester United

Don't think people should get their knickers in a twist about this.

Professional footballers cannot afford to be tied to normal "fan" loyalty. They are fans of whoever they are playing for, even if they were fans of a particular team when they were at school. There's none of this "Tottenham till I die" stuff, it's their careers and whole life. Carragher and Owen were Everton fans. Defoe was a gooner etc.

If anyone on here had a son who was a Spurs fan and got talent spotted by Arsenal they would jump at the chance and then their allegiance would be for the scum (the kid, not the parents).

I chose spurs for a number of reasons, none of the above, and more so for the opposite of c)

In school (early 90's) everyone supported Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd - whoever was the most successful at the time. I wanted to be different, so I chose the team at the bottom of the league. lol

Yeah I didn't choose Spurs for any of those reasons either, but they're still the most common reasons. Hence why United and Real Madrid have the most fans in the world not Hartlepool and Unterhaching

I don't much care what has been said, and surely we can't hold anything against him for not being a Spurs lover originally as we had been nothing at the time.

All I care is after he has finished digging all the Spanish oro, and pines for home, he comes back to us instead of going to Manure or the Emirates, and worst of all, to Chelscum. These days I hate Chelscum more than the Arse.

There's no chance of him returning to us, unless he continues his career abroad until his early 30's. The best we can hope for is he stays abroad or goes to one of the manc clubs. I'd be amazed if he went to Arsenal, but the thought of him going to Chelsea makes me sick (partly because they are one of the only teams that could afford him). If he rocked up there, I genuinely don't think I could bring myself to follow football in England like I do now.

Who cares, we have a team full of actual Spurs fans now with Kane as our leader.

This. Besides which, we could never afford him. Hopefully he may come back in some capacity (coaching staff etc)

At least we know that Robbie Keane always supported us when he was young.... (and Inter and Liverpool and LA Galaxy and Wolves and Celtic and......)

Not unlike Adam Richman...

@teljacks11: I thought you was a west ham fan @AdamRichman?” I am! One more time: I SUPPORT SPURS, IRONS, LUFC, BARÇA & @NewYorkRedBulls

He's since added Grimsby and Celtic to his locker....
