The odd thing is, sometimes I think Rose is both those options simultaneously.

I was reading all the comments saying how great he was and then realised they're in reference to Sunday's game lol. Good job as he was shocking last night... arse raped by Ibe, gave away a stupid penalty, and was diving into challenges.

Rose has improved on last season but he keeps falling into his old trap of being turgid too many times. Davies is a better defender but is incredibly slow... a very strange signing, especially for £10m. Instead of having one very good left back and an adequate understudy/prospect, we've ended up with 2 average players, which isn't ideal if we're wanting to consistently compete with the big boys.

My problem with Rose.......I'll only name one, if he is going to attack and speed up the wing then he must be prepared to do the same to defend. Last night he lost the plot and decided to amble back on many occasion.

Liability option please.

Has more drive and determination than Davies but he makes ridiculous challenges for fun.

Davies is worse though so make of it what you will.

Nothing to see here.

Rose like the rest of the squad needs more time with Pochettino and the gang.
There some very good would be replacement in the lower divisions for both Rose & Walker so they will not be able to free-wheel or they will be at QPR/Hull or Swansea

As others have said a mysterious* signing!

*polite euphemism.

Thought Jordon Ibe was very very good 9/10 (MOTM). Rose was given the run around. But thought taking it all into consideration Danny did well.
Bar one very good cross and making rose look like a dog he didn't do that much in terms of being effective.

The Sturridge foul was just plain stupidity and Rose did have a shocking match

Sadly Danny boy isn't a good as he thinks he is. He's steady at best and more dangerous going forward than Benny was but we need a better LB imo.

He would be more suited in a wing back roll, allowing a 3rd centre back to mop up for him. The downside though would be Walker at right wing back as he has little end product after marauding forward.

A defender primary job is to defend

Fat chest is not very good at it,...doesn't matter how good he is going forward

It's like playing a useless bowler because he can bat a bit

When people tell me that Rose is a liability who is getting skinned and that Davies should play, they conveniently forget to mention that Davies has been skinned more times than I care to remember this season.

Oh and if a wing-back's job is primarily to defend first, why did we sell Naughton and keep Walker?

he really should be used as a left winger. cant see why so many managers want him as left back.

Being a defender himself, it's a wee bit strange that he could improve attackers beyond recognition and yet he doesn't seem to have the same success with our defence. Is it a case that players like Rose and Walker just don't have the brains to play their roles properly, or is it Poch has concentrated on his attackers first and has not have the time yet to deal with the defence individually?

he really isn't cut out to play fb, gets pulled out of posiition too easily, gets wrong side too easily & dives in at every opportunity.

It's not the 1970's anymore. I think it's arguably more important that Rose and Walker look to improve their attacking game than their defensive one. I don't think it's any coincidence that we've become a much more attacking threat with Rose and particularly Walker back in the team...

A defender's primary job is to defend, yes, when his team don't have the ball, but when we do have the ball, it's these guys jobs to stretch the pitch.

Considering we tend to have more possession in games than we do without it, you'd be hard pushed to convince me that we would be better off with more traditional defenders in the team. We wouldn't be playing as close to as well as we are if our full backs got nosebleeds upon crossing the halfway line.

You have said your self 'A defender's primary job is to defend' Its all very well the left back racing up the pitch helping the attack, but what about when the other team attacks is it ok to just amble back hoping that someone else will pick up the pieces?
