Tottenham have snapped up Malaga's former technical scout Adrian Esparraga to become the club's senior scout for southern Europe.

Sounds like Mitchell was the driving force behind this. Glad to see taking strides this season to improve our scouting.

Well spotted.

Interesting that the guy is 24 - so hasn't played much if any professional football ! But good to hear we are getting a scouting network together - false economy not to have one with the size of transfer fees and wages today as no scouting means we risk buying badly #magificentseven#

Absolutely, and i could be mistaken but i do not remember us having any spanish scouts in the past. This will definitely help us snap up any potential youth players who might have slipped through the cracks (eg Bentaleb).

Saw this earlier - the question I have is how Mitchell and those he is hiring relate to Broomfield. It is less than a year ago that the club won out in re-signing him. According to LinkedIn his job title is consultant - is he having a supervisory role helping Mitchell et al establish a whole new network? Is he working as part of that network? Or is he working independently of that network.

Maybe someone who is in the know could spell it out for us :)

Just to be exact, and not saying you didn't know this: he is a Spaniard who is head of scouting for the whole of Southern Europe. Not sure whether you think that being Spanish means his focus will be solely or mainly on Spain - but, as said, it isn't.

One sprig of asparagus; two and more sprigs of esparraga. Good omen for finding many young sprigs.

So is he the one that found Isco?
Not really, Isco wanted to go Malaga

He was known throughout spain as a top talent

Valencia wanted to keep him but he wanted Malaga to activate the clause so he could go home

.

Broomfield is 64 - the role he was being offered by Arsenal was to work for Arsenal's Chief Scout Steve Rowley.

Maybe its as straightforward as Broomfield reaching an age where he doesn't want the hassle of a full time management role in charge but very happy to offer advice and scout top targets.

So maybe we've got a very modern 'Technical scout' in Mitchell using all the software stuff alongside a very old style scout - best of both worlds in getting views on whether to recruit a particular player. No more #magnificent seven# ?

Good shout actually. Is possible we have two entirely separate networks using the two respective styles which then compare notes and analyses.

Sure, but the fact that he is Spanish and worked as scout in Spain, a league known for producing technically talented players, he will undoubtedly have a idea of what young players who might not've fit in other teams in La Liga that might fit into our system and style of play.

Yeah, I was kinda hinting at this when I noted that Broomfield's official title, as given on LinkedIn is Consultant.

Don't mind having a Magnificent Seven again - just so long as a higher percentage are magnificent, this time..and there doesn't necessarily have to be seven :)

Sure...I don't doubt that and, obviously, we stand to benefit from it. Just wanted to make it clear to any interested parties, who may or may not have included you, that although he is Spanish and worked in Spain, his job title applies to the whole of Southern Europe :)

So why is he at Betis less than half a year later?
