I'd imagine Fazio will hang around for next season and I fully expect Vertonghen and Dier to return as our first choice pairing. Wimmer will likely be brought on as the backup to Vertonghen with the hopes he could eventually replace Vertonghen.

I love the move if it's paired with the sales of Kaboul and Chiriches.

Kicker is more reliable than all of the British tabloids put together when it comes to transfer rumors. They usually get their info directly from someone inside the clubs, but £4.3 million banded about sounds too cheap, though. Cologne wanted 10 million euros, so it would be surprising if they settle for only 6 mil.

You guys don't think Wimmer would walk into the starting 11 over Dier?

Think he would fit in much the same way Dier has this year as a 2/3 CB. Left sided CB who would slot behind Jan.

Ship off Kaboul and likely Vlad and have Jan/Dier as the top pair with Wimmer/Fazio as the second pair.

Wouldn't be surprised if Levy got the price considerably reduced with a sell-on fee, especially with how young Wimmer is. If he continues on his trajectory, with the rates we typically sell our players for, Koln could make quite the profit with such an arrangement.

Don't know if it would be a sell on....we never seem to do those (after we bought out Bale's from Soton).

Wouldn't be surprised if there were performance and appearance clauses (the same way we did with Soldado) though. Or maybe we pay a larger chunk up front rather than over a time span.

Very true, and those are certainly tenets Levy likes to use.

Was going to say similar, probably the one clause Levy wouldn't use at it could potentially lose him money

I'm still puzzled by the low transfer fee and earlieness of the deal being 'done' as reported by several sources.

I haven't seen it said, but I wonder if we triggered a 5m euro release clause in Wimmer's contract, and that's the reason.

Hope he is not the last arrival but getting deals done early will be great for the club and better than waiting for Levy time since all new signings get a proper pre-season to bed in.

The issue I have with this signing is that it means that we won't go for Hector Moreno, which is a real shame, because he, unlike Wimmer, would immediately step in and be the #1 CB at the club. Moreno is hitting top form now that he is healthy for Espanyol and he only has 1 year left on his contract. Would've been a perfect fit considering his history with Pochettino, but probably would've commanded a larger wage than Wimmer and transfer fee.

I think we go for Hector Moreno or Matheo Musacchio are unlikely because Levy won't pay the higher transfer fee, and probably higher wages too.

Depending on how things go with Vertonghen we could still see Moreno coming in at some point.

Got a feeling he has been made some sort of a promise. If we don't get CL and we get a good offer he can go.

Yeah, the fact that contract offer has been sitting on the table tells me something is up.

My hearts not exactly broken either, I like the guy, but I think he's pretty overrated. Had a great thing going with Bale, but when Gareth left he's been pretty average.

If we can shift Kaboul and Chirches who are awful and replace them in the squad with Wimmer and Carter-Vickers I will be very happy

Think he might struggle aerially in this league, International football is very different to the Prem.
