I never really knew much about Charlton apart from what you see on highlights reels but the one thing that always impressed me is the power he got into his shots and the distance considering the weight of those balls.

Met him once. Didn't have a comb-over though, which was disappointing.
His greatest ever match was the 1968 European Cup Final against Benfica in which he scored twice, including a very rare header. What was so impressive was that throughout 120 minutes, he did not make an error. Just try to contemplate a midfielder not making one misplaced pass in 2 hours of football on top of 2 goals and very attack started by him.

I am one of those who were able to see Charlton playing Iive on many occasions, a true pro and a great ambassador for
game.
He survived the Munich Air disaster in which 23 others died, he put that down to luck and got on with his career in tines when
Footballers were paid a pittance compared to today's stars.
Won the World Cup for England in 1966 and the European Cup for Man U in 68.
He - to me - is Mr Man United ! Fortunately United have always kept him close to their club.
Like many others before and after him he didn't quite cut it in the management stakes.
