What I don't understand is players turning their back on the ball all the time. FFS it's a football! It isn't going to hurt you. Man the fuck up and take it in the face of you have to. I'd fine players that turn their backs on the ball. It was a harsh penalty and I'd be screwing if it was given against us but that's footy.

Well the replays on sky here in Germany and subsequent discussion claim it was a penalty... Soft maybe, but a correct decision.

The ball hits his arm. Which is outstretched. It's not point blank, so it's a penalty.

Agree. I could understand if it wasn't given, but I don't see the controversy at all because he does flap his arm out when jumping to block a ball and it hits it.

The fucking idiots commentating (Quinn and Tyler I think) were saying that's not handball it hit the underneath of his arm ? Like the underneath isn't part of his fucking arm ?

Agree 100pc. Dont see the controversy.

Anyone that has played the game knows, if you turn your back to the ball, you make it easy for the ref.

1) It hit his arm and his arms wernt by his side.
2) Wasnt accidental because he was in the air and had no control of his body
3) had his back to the ball
4) he was 10 yards away so cant be accidental

Exactly how I interpreted it.

Holy Jesus I've got full on man tears watching Harry and Poch celebrating with the fans. Looking at how the whole squad are with him, you feel that they fully believe they can win this, and that that's what they're committed to.

This the day I fell in love with Mauricio Pochettino.

Happy Valentine's day you beautiful bastards.

What kept ye?

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why MOTD highlights are fucking useless.
I'm surprised they even bothered showing our winner, the twats.

Things starting to even themselves up a bit for once, I can't recall one of the sky five ever getting a decision like that awarded against them, especially at home!

Personally never saw it as a penalty and I'm sure we'd be fuming if it was up the other end. Anywho, Kane still had to score even after a little banter with Hart and did so. Enjoy the win and why couldn't this be put in the match thread?

Way I see it. If his arm hadn't been there the ball wouldn't have hit it. He went up with his arm out. It stopped the flight of the ball. Deliberate handball, penalty. Harsh? Yes, but thems the breaks.

Really? Other than the eriksen shot from range and a late effort from kane i dont recall any other shots being cited in this thread apart from the goals.

There was plenty of pessimism and 'phews' to go with the 'we deserve this, were bossing this' group.

Guess i expected to see a bit more of an even set of highlights unless our 'dominance' was passing the ball sideways a lot.

Justvan observation, obvs delighted with the result however it came
We didn't pass it sideways.

Yep Rose took one from him full on. Same thing happens to him and he turns his back giving the penalty away.

It was 50 50, but you can't jump with your arms out in the box and just use the excuse that your back was to the ball.

Also, watch the replay carefully and you'll notice that he reigns his arm in as soon as the ball hits his arm. To me it looked a conscious decision and the penalty was just punishment.

So while it was soft, it wasn't a crazy decision.

His arm was in a very different position when it made contact with the ball compared with when the ball was kicked. And he was the one who put it there, deliberately. The accidental consequence of a deliberate act, perhaps, as opposed to a deliberate act in its own right, but that's how the rule works and how it's always worked.
