While most people love Lloris as a player does everyone think he is the ideal choice as captain ? I know many will say we should have 11 captains but the truth is that the great teams have generally had great leaders and these leaders have usually been central defenders or midfielders, I'm thinking Donkey Adams, Vieira, Keane, Terry and going back in time Bruce and Souness. I think at times when the chips have been down this season we've lacked that leader to take charge and if we are going to improve next season then that needs to be addressed. While Kane is vice captain I don't think forwards work as captains either and for me we have 2 standout candidates in Toby and Dier.

So who does SC want as team captain for next season ?

My vote goes to Dier.

Think we should give it to Onomah as a way of apologising for the fact he didn't play for half an hour against Bournemouth.

It's a tough call because Alderweireld seems like the most natural choice for captain, whereas Kane would make sense as our talisman (who is also very vocal and passionate). Dier is an obvious captain for the future too.

However, it would be very harsh to take the captaincy off Lloris. When he speaks to the press he represents us superbly, and despite getting a bit sloppy in the later stages of the season he's generally led by example with some stunning performances. I'm proud to have him as our captain, and as a senior (but not exactly old) player in a very young squad, I believe our players look up to him too.

Can't take it away from the big man. He's a man that oozes class.

Kane or Dier for VC.

Alderweireld as captain?! The Toby love is far out of proportions.
I'm proud that Lloris is captain, and one simply does not strip existing captain if he is not sold or has done something truly stupid. Even Kaboul was never officially stripped of the captaincy (albeit in effect he was). Change captain .... Bullocks I say.

People have got a lot to learn about loyalty and man management. Hugo is the ultimate professional, dignified and loyal so why the hell would you strip him of the captaincy. If he put in a transfer request because he wanted to move to a bigger club Spurs fans would soon moan about loyalty but don't care when it is the other way round.

Just to be clear I'd keep Lloris as Club Captain for all the reasons people outline above but I think we need greater leadership on the pitch, hence why I'd go for Dier as team captain.

I'd certainly keep Lloris as captain - a definite world class player who has experience. Kane has been captain of Spurs youth teams and is our talisman so he'd definitely be a vice captain. My preference is to have a captain who is a CB or CM who can see everything going forward, so its probably Alderweireld (who has a lot of experience).

Think Dier will have a chance to be 3rd vice captain, but maybe not next season but season after with more experience. By the same token after 2014/15 I'd have had Mason as VC this season if I'd judged him on one season - which is really where Dier is now

Lloris has done a great job as captain. If it isn't him I'd give it to Alderweireld. He's been outstanding all season and is meant to be one of the more serious characters in the squad. I think he'd do a great job. Dier could be a captain of the future but he's still way too young.

I don't think you can take it off Lloris. That said, I've answered independently and as if it was from day one, so Toby all day. Most consistent performer, vocal, leads by example, and I always prefer centre backs as captains

Lloris is club captain and should wear the arm band. We need a vocal, experienced winner out on the pitch. We do not have one currently in our ranks.

How would you know?

We have a ton of players that were winners in other leagues before Spurs, and we also have guys that are vocal leaders on the pitch, so what the hell are you talking about?

I don't believe Lloris should lose the captaincy but everything you've said is ridiculous.

There is not one vocal winner in this team who can keep the team from falling apart. When you have the most points dropped from winning positions, and completely throw away a league position in 4 games that was all but locked up, there is a very obvious lack of a winner and a leader in the team.

Lloris should stay as club captain.

There's nothing to stop anyone else on the pitch being vocal and showing those seemingly missing leadership qualities, regardless of who wears the armband.

Absolutely no point in rocking the boat and changing something which has quite clearly worked this season, and has after all resulted in us finishing third.

Understand the not wanting to not rock the boat and upset Lloris, but I've always believed you need an identified leader where the game's being played, and that's outside our goal mouth 90% of the time! Dier for me! He's got that Mackay/Perryman desire, fearlessness and will to lead about him.

Yes we came third but that doesn't mean that everything worked. It seemed to me that in our final few games in particular we really lacked a leader on the pitch. We can of course say a player could do this even if Lloris has the armband but life doesn't work like that and you tend to see that the right player becomes more vocal and leads more when given the captaincy. I think Dier may have that Keane like hardness of being able to rally the troops and demand of others the same effort he is showing. He seems pretty quiet and is obviously one of the more inexperienced members of the team so I don't think it is natural that he would lead or that others would listen to him without Poch giving him the captaincy.

I really don't think it's all that important. Lloris represents us well, and taking away his captaincy would look strange from the outside.

Guys like Dier, Alderweireld, Lamela (due to his attitude and fearlessness in the big games), Kane and Dembele (experience and calming presence) are all visible leaders in this team and wont need an armband to be that.

The only times I think that an armband makes a difference are in cases such as Moussa Sissoko, where you have a total bellend of a player that only shows up in glamour fixtures, and you have to coax out something resembling a decent attitude by making them captain.
