Interesting

Maradonna said something very similar about the 1990 semi final Argentina vs Italy

He was the favourite son of Napoli at the time and he used the major north south divide (and disconnection from the people of Naples to the Italian national identity) to garner support for him and his Argentina team from the Naples crowd as they battled the Italian national team for a place in the World cup final
I had a boss from Naples a few years back. One of the other guys who worked for him was from Milan. He'd always jokingly wind him up claiming people from Naples actually supported Argentina in that game. He would always somewhat uncomfortably deny it of course, but you could tell that was an accusation levelled at many fans.

Also remember a bunch of Arsen*l fans supporting France when Anelka scored against England in a friendly when I was at Uni. Always thought that was odd.

Hi Colin,

Hand in your resignation tomorrow.

Kind regards,

Your slightly peeved, very sexy boss

I think the club would prefer to buy a centre forward / attacking midfielder rather than an out and out centre forward such as Batshuayi, i can't see us paying 20m pound's odd for a player who is going to be just back up for H.

The things is though, with 38 PL games, at least 6 CL plus the League cup and FA cup he would get a lot of games. I would see him as an alternative to Harry not a backup. It would, hopefully, stop Harry getting stale.

I understand what your saying but i don't think the club will pay 20m odd for a player who won't be in our strongest eleven !

We paid £22m for Son to be back-up to Lamela and Eriksen.

CF is the type of position where you really need a specialist. We've already got loads of WF who can 'do a job' at CF (Son, Njie and Chadli)

Son? Lamella?
Both purchased for over 20M with the intention of them competing for a spot. So yes, I can easily see us doing that.

20m!?? This guy is going to cost over 30m. You can tell already with some of bids that have gone around that player prices have gone up yet again

Lamela was definitely bought as a first team player and perhaps Son as well, even if they weren't, they had 3 places to contest and no one with the stature of Kane in front of them.

Kane will want to be playing as many as possible to break the 20 goal and maybe even aim for 30 goal mark to emulate Shearer.

Whilst you are right, he doesn't pick the team and there will be times when Poch will want to change things around during games. We do need an adequate alternative.

There will be early round cup games to play in, and injuries to cover. Just like how Wimmer and Trippier were eased in this season, while not crowding Verts/Alder and Walker.

We didn't buy Son to be a back up. We bought him to push Lamela and whoever else for a first team place and provide a quality option. If we buy Batshuayi it won't be as a back up. It will be to push Kane for his place and be a viable rotation option.

I thought the team picked itself!!! :nailbiting:

As for the other comments... We really don't buy 1st 11 vs backup anymore, haven't for a while.
We purchase first team (i.e. 11 + Rest) and Prospects.

No one is guaranteed a start unless they are performing. If we spend X Million on Bats it is not to be backup nor is it to be first name on the team sheet. It is to provide strength in depth to the first team and Poch will pick what he believes is the best 11 on the day based on form, fitness and opposition.

It isn't that hard is it?

Eh? Lamela signed for us in 2013 & Kane never even played a PL game for us until April 2014?
