50 years, so doesn't include 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 4th in the seasons 1960-64 just before the cut off for this exercise

.edit: and shows how Leeds, Forest and Ipswich are currently underachieving when compared against their longer, more impressive, historical records

Average position of 4th over the last 50 years, but not once have we finished first in that time period.

Classic Spurs.

I was surprised we are above them tbh, 4 league titles since we last won :(. Shows how consistent we have been the last ten years really

Install ublock, blocked 21 ads on that page and loaded in a couple of seconds

I have an ad blocker installed, which one are you usimg?. Auto-play videos are a nightmare, then we have corner ads, side ads, overlay ads, the site is worse then Football Insider, another site solely about advertising.

No, it's not saying that. Our average position is 9th (or 8.84), which is the fourth best record in that period.
Can't believe it took someone this long to point it out.
Just shows how mediocre we've really been in general since we were good in the early 60's.

Average of 9th over 50 years is far from mediocre. As the article says, it's the 4th best in England - better than all except Liverpool United Arsenal.

Average position in the league over 50 years is mid table.
It just means we've been consistently average mid table finishers whereas others have been better then disappeared (Blackburn, Newcastle, Leeds, Forrest, Everton, Villa etc)

It'sa stat that puts us 4th when the reality is, for decades we were nowhere near thise echelons of the league. We've just been in it consistently longer than a lot of other teams.

I bet if you manipulated the stat and did it based on the number of times a team finished in the top 6 of the to division in the last 50 years we'd be way down.

Let's not become another liverpool where we resort to history and useless stats. Lets look to the future and hope we become a decent consistent team challenging and not pretend we've always been there or there abouts.

No we wouldn't lol, what a load of bull. The only team you listed with even close to our top 6 finishes in that team is Everton.

In those 50 years they've all won at least one title each other than Newcastle. Who until Steven Carr went there to win stuff, used to pretty much always finish above us in the 90's.

If all we achieve is 9th next season I don't think people will be too happy.
Really? Teams go through spells over 50 years for fuck sake. Yes we are currently in a good one and would be upset with 9th. Doesn't mean an average of 9th over 50 years isn't impressive. It's the 4th best in the country!
