People say things like this every transfer window. Why on earth would he care about the Spurs shirt when, at this stage, he has no affiliation to us?

At the moment various clubs are making enquiries and some making offers for the player. I imagine he is assessing his options but first concentrating on the Euros.

Set To sign for Chelsea

My mate just said the same thing to me.

"Looks like he was lured with £££
All was agreed but fee, He only wanted Spurs. Palace bid big knowing he wouldn't go, Made our negotiation difficult, Chelsea came in, £150k a week (double what we offered) and £2m to his agent"....

Hope he's bloody wrong!

So we're back to sniffing round the big boys leftovers.
Our model of spotting young talent
and/or producing our own
seems to have gone out the window (sorry) again
now they have got us into the CL.
Back to the tedious stories of players who choose the money even over CL.

Shouldn't this constant horse-shit
or in this case bat-shit be in transfers/ITK
where I am not allowed to view it.

Sounds like Chelski are splashing the cash about again. Fine. £30m for someone who is a support act right now is perhaps a little too much. £20-25m for someone like Jansen makes more sense.

If this story is true.

This is why faffing around with fees is a problem.

Yes yes i know a couple of million here or there is a lot even to a football club.
I'm not saying just pay what a club asks for.
Just don't expect to get your man when someone else will.

With what? Monopoly money?:)

Will they except that :D

But IF we wanted to we could match that bid. ..We have the money.
However.....is he worth it???let someone else answer that.
Other thing is it would put a huge dent in our funds and we need to cover a few areas so might not make sense to spend that amount on one player.

At this moment in time we are not a club that is gonna spend 30 odd million on a player that is essentially going to be second choice in our preferred system. We clearly need a striker but it just not going to be in that bracket.

So he's not signed for Chelsea yet. Perhaps the suitcase of cash got picked up by the wrong person and right now Cahill is running all over London looking for a little old lady on the 99 bus.

Lets look at the bigger picture when are not going to sign a player for 30m and pay 100k aweek now we have started work on are new ground. We do need to buy a few players keep up are top 4 chances and CL games next season, but we will buy smart like when we got Dier and Alli. All the top teams need to buy and are going to spend alot of money but we have a team that is young and will get better next season.Im pretty sure Poch has his list and the players that we want will come if the price is right.

Leicester have pretty much proved that spending big (or not in this case for us) doesn't really mean anything. It's all about getting the right players to fit the system.

I have faith that the management team and scouts will get the right players that we need at a good price. I doubt we'll spend much more than £30m in total so he was probably a non-starter at that price.

Privvy to that info are you?
When did we last spend £30m on a player without at least that much coming in from a sale?

Don't kid yourself that we have a bank full of money because we're in the champions league or because of TV money.
We have to pay for a stadium, wages, bonus' for finishing 3rd. We rarely spend more than we make. I wouldn't expect that to change come August when the window closes.

Not saying we would or will...because personally I don't think we will...
However I'd bet everything I own that we could match the bid IF we wanted to.... and that's a fact.
We've already spent 11 mil and according to janssen on sky sports we've bid 14.78mil for him...there's almost 26 mil with nothing going out.

So can we afford it yes.....will we.....no.

With a bit of luck, the next England manager will be looking for the same old lady, and will give her Cahill's spot at centre-half.
