Batshuayi said he wants to play CL. Chelsea missing out may be a one season blip. With the amount of competition our qualifying could be seen as a one season blip. Surely he's thinking medium to long term and they've not just blown us out of the water with his wages????

According to SSN Belgium pulled Michy from the upcoming press conference, at the request of Marseille. I guess we'll have the answer where he will play next year soon then....

Wouldn't it magnificent if Levy had been saving up for years and years just to get one back on Chelscum. Perhaps we'll outbid 'em just when he's about to sign on the dotted line.

Wouldn't it have been even more magnificent if Levy had conned Chelscum into paying over the odds for a player with a bad attitiude whilst actually signing the first choice THFC target?

Here's what I know to be true:
1. Batshuayi visited us in March. My guy met him on the plane to London.
2. We agreed on terms and Batshuayi agreed to sign for us.
3. We knew all along the price was €40m.

This is supposition:
1. Knowing the price was €40m we thought we could play brinkmanship and take advantage of Marseille's financial predicament. We waited until the deadline came into view before making our move.
2. In the meantime we advanced discussions with other targets in an attempt to force Labrune's hand. In turn, Labrune leaked as much about subsequent bids as possible to force our hand.
3. We remained confident that because Batshuayi had told us he wanted to sign for us we could sit it out. Chelsea then moved late last night having presumably contacted Batshuayi's agent to see what we had offered him. They bettered it and sealed the deal and by the time we made our bid it was too late.

I know for an absolute certainty that my first three points are correct. I know someone who was close to Marseille at the time of the initial discussions. He is no longer involved hence why subsequent information has run dry.

Very optimistic.

Just realised that Standard Liege get 35% of the fee and I think i figured it out.

Standard are the team that we "allegedly" used to get Fryers on the cheap form Man Utd, so we obviously have a good relationship with them.

We used our interest (the truth) to bump up the bids, thus increasing Standard's share, split the difference, lovely jubbly. Making our true intentions the lie. I think we can put this one to bed.

I think in no time, you'll get an offer from Levy as his senior financial adviser.

Cheers for sharing. Leaves little doubt the club directors took a gamble and lost.

Backs up my view that we at no point actually pulled out. That's just a sweet story to sell the few journos left who are happy to print whatever the club wants them to print.

Always the problem with us. Too fucking clever for our own good.

Personally (and i know this sounds a bit cliche) but if he goes to Chelsea then i wouldn't want him anyway. He only has to look at players like Costa, Lukaku, Torres and a number of others to see how risky a move to Chelsea could be for his career. In fact both De Bruyne and Lukaku surely don't have anything positive to say about their time there.

Given that he'll also be out of the CL and frankly it's not like they are guaranteed a return to CL next season.

Then you look at the likes of Verts, Toby and Dembele and see that Spurs could be really great fir for him.

If he choses Chelsea, IMO it's all going to be about the money - i wouldn't want that type of player.

Your missing the point though. It's not a straight choice between us and Chelsea because we've left it too late.

So much for him only wanting to go to a team playing in the CL. As usual it's all about the money/wages.

Yeah that's what it appears to be, gambling we could drive the price down based on the the players desire to join us and the financial woes of OM, and it has backfired

I wouldn't be too disheartened if we 'end up' with Janssen, but I've been banging the Batshuayi drum since he was at Anderlecht and I've lost out on potentially years worth of 'I told you so' with my mates, so I hope Levy thinks about that when he's trying to sleep tonight

I cannot believe for a second that we have not had constant dialogue and have not reassured Bat since March that we still unreservedly want him as our number one target. It's also a 2 way thing, his agent must have let us know that he still wanted to join us.

If he has indeed now signed for Chelsea then surely their interest would have been known to us through the above channels. It's like this thing has suddenly come out of the blue, which it can't of. Surely any decent agent worth his salt would go back to Spurs and say my client has now had a better offer or want more money? 40 million euros isn't just a whim - it must be planned?

Edit - maybe we did not want to be part of this particular game and did withdraw. That's also not gambling, it's market rates and idea of worth etc.

Left it too late for what??? You saying there's no way we could still sign him? Until the paperwork is through and officially announced anything can happen.

We could still sign him if we match Chelsea's terms with Marseille and the player, but that's hardly realistic is it?

Needed to act sooner instead of playing transfer chicken.

Again.

It's quite obvious we will not pay 33 million and wages of 150k. It's over
