There's absolutely no need for him to play until the weekend unless we're somehow in desperate trouble, and we all know Poch isn't really bothered about the domestic cups so I'd be surprised to see him even in an emergency. Give him a rest, no harm in it.

He had the whole summer off... he needs to find some form not rest.

I'd play him tomorrow. Bench at the weekend.

I've been a big critic of his recently, and was happy to see him dropped against Sunderland last week. But he was excellent today, but I think that could be more to do with the role he took up.

I've always felt that he's been found a little wanting as a No.10 in the PL. You have to be brave to call for the ball and be excellent in tight spots, or make powerful runs off the striker. For me he lacks in these areas. But today, in a slightly withdrawn role, sometimes alongside Wanyama as a 'No.8', he excelled. He controlled the game for over an hour with the extra time and space, and could utilise his passing from further out (which is stronger than his short-passing game IMO).

As good as Dembele and Dier have been for us over the past year, in some matches we really miss that orchestrating, passing midfielder. Maybe Eriksen could provide that for us, especially with the dynamic options we now have in that three behind the striker.

Firstly, I don't post on here very often, I lurk alot though :p

Eriksen has been one of my favourite players since we signed him, he's borderline world class (When he wants to be) Flicks, through balls, long balls, screamers, set pieces, hes got it all essentially.

We all know he doesn't show that consistently enough, many games he can just do, well, not very much, which is frustrating because we all know how good he is when he's on it.

My gripe tonight (And for a while now) is how he doesn't bother trying to get stuck in.. Lamela has come on leaps and bounds since his first season, but very similarly to Soldado, since day one he tried and tried and tried, never afraid to get stuck in. Yes Lamela made a shit tonne of fouls in his first few seasons, but god did he always try to get back and help his defence or just generally try and win the ball back.

Long story short, Eriksen needs to strengthen up, atleast 3 or 4 times tonight he lost the ball or battled for the ball and it was fairly pathetic to watch. "Eriksen isn't a defensive midfielder" I'm sure i'll see in the replies. Neither is Lamela, but he works his arse off to press and try to atleast be aggressive in winning the ball back.

Maybe i'm being harsh, but Eriksen does need to work harder at either keeping the ball, or being stronger when challenged.

Can we also talk about what a fucking awesome player Lamela has turned into? Backed him from day one, now he's arguably one of the first names on the team sheet, his creativity in this team is unreal.

Absolutely incredible stat, had no idea his numbers were this high. I'd like him to be a little braver in the tackle but absolutely no doubting why Poch loves him so much (from Football 365 winners and losers, lots of nice stuff about us there http://www.football365.com/news/premier-league-winners-and-losers-41)

Christian Eriksen
Finally finally on Tottenham, a little point but an important one. Against Middlesbrough last weekend, Christian Eriksen played 89 minutes and covered more ground than any other player on the pitch. On Tuesday, Eriksen played 90 minutes in the Champions League, a competition in which only two players have covered more ground this season. On Sunday, Eriksen played 90 minutes and covered more ground than any other player on the pitch. Don’t let looks be deceiving, this is a player determined to become the complete Pochettino attacking midfielder.

He excelled in a deeper position for us today, he was magnificent.

Would be fantastic if we can develop that more from him.

We don't lack for attacking midfielders but we do lack for passing midfielders. I'd love to see us try and use him alongside one of our DMs, particularly in games where we need to try and unlock stubborn defences.

Yeah I agree, he has the ability to do it. Also it would free up that number 10 slot for the likes of Alli/Lamela to excel in.

Yup exactly that. I think when we have Eriksen, Lamela and Alli all playing there is a tendency for them to get in each other's way, and I think both Lamela and Alli suffer at times from being behind Eriksen in terms of that no.10 role.

It's not an option for every game. Eriksen runs around like a trooper but his defensive contribution isn't always that great, so there will be games where we'd need someone a bit tougher in there.

But based on how we performed on Sunday, I really hope we use it as an option again this season.

But if he can excel against City, there might not be many of those games. Especially at home

TBF, that is Eriksen's 3rd game playing there (against 3 very different types of opposition) and we have only conceded 1 goal in that time, which was a set piece.

Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but for those saying that all of his running does not equate to much defensive contributions, Eriksen made more ball recoveries (16) than any other player against City.

Eriksen needs to be our pass to the assist player, he will bring intelligence to the deeper playing position and will be surronded by players which won't allow him to be bullied - Wanyama, Dembele etc. This is where he will really excel and show his true potetnial for us.

Given Poch is now talking about moving to 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 I think we'll start to see the best out of Alli and Eriksen playing as more advanced central midfielders.

Dier/wanyama next to dembele with eriksen just in front of them playing passes everywhere and of course supporting the attack. Front 3 could then be any of the other AMs plus janssen or harry. Just means winksy may get less time

Really interesting video. Shows how important Eriksen is to us.

Everyone that doesn't rate Eriksen because they don't understand what he does for us should watch this video.

He is so important in the way we play both offensively and in the press and his football 'IQ (for want of a better term)' is so much higher than every single other player in our squad,
