22 is actually not that young in football terms.

Don't think people are expecting him to be player of the season either but for a £20 million signing you'd at least expect something of a goal threat and to be able to last more than 30 minutes wouldn't you say?

I'd say age is irrelevant. Experience counts for more. A 21 year old who has been playing regular first team football since 17 is more mature in footballing terms than a 22 year old who has just broken into first team football.

As for Janssen, looks like a good old fashioned English style centre forward. I'm still working out exactly how he fits into a Poch style system but he is new to the Premier League and needs time. People also need to remember he was purchased as cover too.

Ironically the one person who probably won't give him time is Poch! Poch has demonstrated a ruthless streak with players who don't fit in or aren't good enough. Long gone are the days we hang on to deadwood. Now people gets shipped out after just one season!

he was great today. almost everything good on attack came through his hold up play. the finishing will come.
He was great at holding up play for the first 30'. After that, he was visibly exhausted yet again. And we werent good.

I really like the look of his all around game but he hasnt looked like scoring in his time so far and its quite obvious he is not close to fit enough for a full 90'. It's been like this every game where he is visibly shot after 30'. He's just nowhere near ready yet. Thankfully Kane should be back soon.

I still like what he brings to us. We all say Son should have started and in hindsight maybe yes but I do remember watching the first half and thinking damn, Poch got it right to put in Janssen as he was holding the ball up and bringing others into play really well.

There were a lot more runners around him in the first half when he was holding the ball up and he had good options which helped a lot, the second half he looked isolated a bit and no one was really making forward runs around him.

He holds the ball up so well and even if it was in the dutch league he's proven that he's a goalscorer. I think it's just about finding out how to utilise him and maybe what players he works best with, because the talent is all there IMO,we just need to get the best out of it. Whether we will is yet to be seen but I still believe we'll have one hell of a player if he gets his game right and starts having more of an eye for a goal, as well as continuing to be a beast in his hold up play.

I think he was playing very well in the first half when it comes to bringing others into play. WBA fans are saying that they McAuley was being bullied physically, and that something you never see. He should have bagged at least an assist, but that isn't something he can be blamed for.

But he's not really making chances for himself or getting shots away in other games than the Gillingham game so far. Which means that he's probably not going to start banging them in anytime soon.

He was playing with his back facing the goals so many times and did ever so well.. The AMs need to train up one-twos with him in order for him to score.. probably Lamela playing centrally and more game time with Son will he has chances to shoot me feels..

He will get goals next year or next season (just as son and lamela). But now he needs son or kane to get the goals, otherwise his build up play will be useless

didn't he score most of his 27 last season after January?

he can't score if he isn't getting goal scoring opportunities, and from what I did see yesterday he wasn't able to receive the ball in a position to be able to create space, due to the way WBA set up. he held the ball up well and brought others into play.

we need to be patient with the lad, start getting on his back, and that 1st goal from open play will take even longer to come.

His hold up play was very good first half. I'm not really worried about his finishing, I'm more worried about him getting into goalscoring positions. Hopefully this will improve over time, he's still adjusting to the team and league.

No football brain, has no idea how to time his runs. Just like against Monaco, when trying to play off the shoulder he runs 3-4 yards offside. When we had a breakaway late in the game and Son was running with the ball Janssen went to make an offer down the channel and went way way to early.

Can't agree to be honest mate. I would have said the same had that been the fist time I'd watched him but in all the games he's played he hasn't been receiving the ball in forward facing positions with space. Whether that's down to his positioning or lack of supply is hard to know

Completely agree about him holding the ball up well and needing to be patient with him though. I'm actually still happy with his performances to be honest, thought he was great in the 1st half against WBA and he wasn't the only one who's performance dropped off in the second. Only thing is he's a striker and the goals will need to come eventually.

I like him, he is strong and has fantastic hold up play - the things holding him back right now are his fitness (which will come over the next month or two) and that he needs to get in more goal scoring positions. The injury to Kane has meant he has been in the team probably a bit earlier than expected and I dont think he is physically where he needs to be yet.

I like what I have seen of him though - if anybody is seriously righting this guy off already we might as well give up because I think that not only has he shown a lot of potential, he has played pretty well in the last few matches I've watched. He may not yet be a real goal threat but he is contributing to the team on the pitch with his hold up play.

You dont think he shows a very good football brain when he holds up the ball superbly and delivers a perfect ball at the right moment to a team mate who then has a clear goal scoring chance? He has done that several times so far.

I am trolling a bit, I think he is doing ok and his hold up play is decent. But he does need to do a lot better. Timing runs like that is a pretty basic aspect of the game he is getting wrong.
