Is the squad over-training?

Which is utter bollocks because the frequency of games is no different to last season.
We've just gone from Sunday/Thursday to Saturday/Tues/Weds
The only difference is we got further in Europe last season than we will do this season, which would probably explain the burn out, but it doesn't explain or validate shit performances in the PL for the majority of games so far.

A valid point, however perhaps last season there was less need to actually coach the team as it was generally performing well.

I have a theory and its a very optimistic theory. We haven't been pressing. Surely that instruction has come from Poch. We only really did it against City and we were excellent that game. My theory is that Poch is doing this to avoid an end of season burn out and as a result of so many involved in the Euros last summer. He is trying to keep us competitive until January (we are only 3 points off the top). He will then ramp up the training, turn on the full gegenpress and we will come home at a gallop, winning the league and the FA Cup. I know. It is optimistic. I am going for a lie down...

Apart from the last bit which seems far fetched at the moment the rest is perfectly plausible, he did it last season where we has double training sessions after Xmas and we benefitted from it.

As for the op, no we are not over training, we just cannot handle two high intensity matches a week and we are witnessing a drop off in sprints and intensity, the way we setup we need to be at it otherwise the system falls short.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek with the last bit but was kinda serious with the first. I really find it hard to believe that the players have stopped pressing against the orders of Poch. That means Poch must be in control of it. Why would he do that when it was so successful last year? The only answer can be due to workload and wanting to be strong second half of the season. Could be a million miles off and as one other poster says lets see what happens at Chelsea. If we get the pressing effort we did against Citeh and Arsenal there MAY be something in it. I bloody well hope so.

But surely we can't just leave doing it for weeks and weeks then all of a sudden decide to turn it on, that would be selling themselves short on effort and desire.

I doubt it to be honest.
I've met fitness staff from 3 PL teams in my time in that biz and they don't train anywhere near as hard as you probably imagine. They are all very fit people, but fit for a purpose. Your average gym has people who are fitter and train harder.

I bloody well hope not. Going half arsed in a must win game to qualify for the knock out stages of the CL in order to conserve energy for the weekend PL game is not what I want to see from my team.

My "bloody well hope so" was the hope that better things were around the corner, not that we would continue to be served up this drivel!

Yeah I realise that, but if we suddenly play with great intensity and purpose on Saturday I will find myself scratching my head and rather pissed off that we just so meekly bowed out of the CL only a few days earlier.

Some of the theories make no sense. "Let's give 90% and hope we scrape now by to maybe be better next year", I mean who thinks that's rational? There are also several forms of pressing, not all of them necessarily presuppose a high use of energy.
