@Gaz_Gammon why WTF? He has done it before, he went back to Rome and recuperated with Roma's fitness team last time he had a bad injury. And came back better for it and made a major impact

Clickbait headline. Sure there could be more to it but how is something that has happened before with nothing but positive results for the team and the player "bizarre"?

He'll tinker with the formation depending on the opposition. He won't play 3 at the back against WBA so I expect Son or Sissoko to come in for Dier, but I think, even when fit, Lamela's fallen out of the core group of players and may be this year's Bentaleb.
Lamela will never be a Bentaleb due to his versatility. He can play centrally or on either wing. He will get plenty of game time when he comes back. He may not start every game, but against weaker opposition I see no reason why he wouldn't. You can't play an entire season with one group of players cos you'll just run them into the ground.

He would struggle to get in the current side now even if he was fit anyway. Poch won't be changing much over the rest of the season if our current form continues. There is no justification to change a five game winning streak starting eleven.

I don't think he's started the same 11 two games in a row but i get your sentiment

You're right about the tinkering, but Lamela falling out of the core group of players and becoming this year's Bentaleb? That's just a little bit silly; I'm surprised you didn't add "he'll be off on loan to Roma next season...." When fit, Lamela will be a great addition to the squad, and Posh himself said he hopes that Lamela will be back training with the team/group in a few weeks.

The article says he has gone with one of our staff. The sports medicine in Italy is probably better than here at elite levels.

I kind of get this given in the summer after pre season lots including myself thought this was going to be the year he really stepped up and had a proper break out season and right now the formation is changing in his absence and the side is looking great. Lots on here even talking about how he will be great around the squad when I suspect this was the year he thought he was going to become the main man but instead we are showing we are fine without him

If that "isn't bizarre" as you say, then i'd love to know how many other PL players head out to another Country to recuperate from a "minor injury".

While not a regular event, it's not as rare as you seem to think.

Some players have personal doctors in their home country, or a doctor they worked with at a previous club or their national team, so for a second opinion they go there.

Or, they go to see a specialist somewhere else. Such as:
Van Persie, Kompany, Nigel de Jong, Zabaleta, Riera, and Benayoun who all went to see a Serbian physio called Mariana Kovacevic for a specific treatment.

Or Ronaldo, Michael Owen, Woodgate, Klinsmann, Gerrard, Kewell - and in other sports, Usain Bolt, Kelly Holmes, Olazabal, Paula Radcliffe - who all went to see Hans Muller-Wohlfardt (the former Bayern doctor).

I also think, although can't find a link for it, that Man Utd let Van Persie go back to Holland for a bit to get treatment there.

Lamela has gone to a city he basically grew up in, accompanied by a member of Spurs' staff to see another doctor = 'bizarre'. Okay then.

Bizarre: "markedly unusual in appearance, style, or general character and often involving incongruous or unexpected elements"

It's not unusual, he's done it before. So also not really unexpected

It's also not a minor injury if he's been out two months with it and he's no nearer the first team

Poch is good at the man management stuff. Eriksen commented recently that he got to go home to Denmark for xmas for first time in years. Our players are very young, this kind of flexibility is important, as long as you work your arse off when you're with the team

So the "what other players have returned to" angle has been blown out of the water...........Can someone please find another reason for this Lamela business to be sinister before half of SC implodes or are people clinging to the theory despite all evidence to the contrary? :D

Its very common for players to do this. To go to seek in particular certain pysios and specialists. Its not bizzare. Lamela has a physio he trusts in Roma, he needs to recover so he goes there.
