Maybe GF's info is a little more up to date than the stuff I'm heading, but I was told the weekend it's very unlikely anything will happen this window as far as incomings are concerned. We have resigned ourselves to the fact the players we want are just not available at this time.

If you look at Mendes' clients, they follow the money via Portugal.

When Monaco had cash, he sent several players there. When Valencia had cash, his clients were there. Same with Chelsea before that and now he's in China.

I wonder if Levy has looked at the nomadic careers of most of his players and thought forget it.

I can't see many outs either in that case. Do we have much deadwood? And even the players we may not necessarily want to retain long term will be needed as cover given we've got FA Cup and Europa League.

Definitely some trends there - with a few stand out players (exceptions) he's clearly more interested in the money than each player's career. I'm sure he does very well out of it all.

Not even young players like Sessegnon, Da Silva??

Thing is, for the first time in a while I'm largely cool with us not signing anyone this window. It's not often that we've done deals in January anyway and we're certainly not desperate in any position.

Injuries could be the only thing that changes that because if Kane goes down then we're in potentially in real trouble. Janssen isn't really ready to start if we're seriously going for the title so we'll end up more likely playing Son or Alli up front. So, if I was being really picky then I'd want us to look for another option up front, but I certainly don't expect it to happen.

When & IF we get Isco, we will revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation. But this is a discussion for another day in summer.
I am more than happy with our current XI & squad. So, not bothered if we dont buy anyone this Jan

I think our squad lacks in two areas. Quality cover for Kane and Eriksen. Whenever any of these two are off form, we struggle to win games. Hopefully the two players the ITK is talking about are in those positions but if you think about it, there's very little chance we'd get such quality in January.

With any hope Janssen does what he did in Holland and has a great second half of the season and maybe the 3421 formation brings more out of Lamela when he returns. It's certainly done wonders for Alli and Eriksen who will at some point drop in form to allow Lamela a chance in that position.

Who have we had from Mendes in the past then?

Zaha was very young at Man U and hardly played for them

Zaha is only 4 months younger than Son. He signed for Man Utd the same summer (2013) that Son signed for Bayer Leverkusen. Son was an instant success while Zaha blew his initial opportunities (e.g. he started in the Community Shield and kept trying to beat fullbacks a second or even third time, for no apparent reason, instead of getting to the byline or crossing/passing), was dropped, then went out on loan and was sold.

3.5 years later, Son still looks like the better player, in my opinion. This is backed up by the stats, as Son has more goals (and more goals + assists combined) than Zaha, despite having played fewer minutes and started fewer games.

You may also be interested to know that back in 2013 Zaha (and Son) was the same age (20) as Alli is now.

Now this sounds plausible.

And I like it as well, squad harmony appears to be better than ever and that's not to be underestimated imo.

Funny how a lot of us are planning formations for where to fit Isco in...

I'll be so surprised if we pull off a signing like this in a January window. Saying that, if we pull of a transfer like this (whenever), what is the guarantee he'd even take Eriksen's place? He's done it in the EPL - and continues to do it at the age of 24.

He scored 6 times last season and created 114 chances wth 13 assists. The season before he scored 10 with 80 chances created. He's improving every season. Half way through the season he's already racked up 58 chances and 8 assists.

Isco's a magnificent player but the assumption he would come to the Premier League and mop it up is just that, an assumption.
Eriksen's a magnificent player and he's ripping it up for us already.

Would depend on what the maximum number of installments Madrid will accept the fee in.

And some comparisons shouldn't be made without context ;)

At age 20 Son was more advanced than Zaha. At age 23 Son is still more advanced than Zaha. Whatever context you put that into, I fail to see how Zaha comes off as a great prospect for us to sign. :p

Looking back at my previous comments, I would actually say I have been adding context to other people's excuses for Zaha's lack of success/development...
