Well play today Carroll I hope it works out for him at Swansea.
We are one of the best for producing players nowadays. Not everyone will make it with us but it's good to see our academy players making it and playing in the permier league and lower. Compared to the 90s where I can only think of a handful of players from our youth team making it anyway let alone at Spurs.

Played well today and looks like he brought some composure and confidence to a team in need of both. IF they stay up it will be because of Carroll, Llorente and Sigurdson.

What a debut from Tom Carroll!
Yeah the formation they put out today helped TC, not sure Gylfi will last playing it though, he's never gonna prosper stuck out left and having to do so much dog work.

But if it was a case of just doing a job on the dippers today putting 5 across the middle and sitting deep and Gylfi will return to off the striker he will be glad to stomach that position every now and then... (especially with results like today)

Brilliant performance from him today - it's almost as though he's actually a competent PL level footballer who when given his chance can produce effective displays and have positive effects? Which is weird considering how many people on here assured me that he's total shit and a Championship player.

I think it was a mental barrier her had, no he didn't get his chances but in training it must of been in his mind that we had better options. At Swansea it's a fresh start and he will hopefully thrive. In his time with us we had a lot of players that were more exspensice and above him in the pecking order. He was fantastic today and I hope he continues to improve. It was his time for a move.

Were they the same people who said Sissoko was shit ?

That's quite a statement after your comments about Sissoko.

Yeah because Tommy Carroll is a 28 year old experienced PL performer brought in for £30m as the club's record signing in order to provide an immediate improvement to the first team isn't he?

Or perhaps the two players and scenarios couldn't possibly be more different, and should be treated as such.

Classic Bobbins

You acknowledged that Carroll needed to to be given a chance to prove himself yet you practically declared Sissoko a write off despite him needing time to settle, there is literally no difference in the scenario's unless you're trying to make a point about Sissoko's price tag which we all know is a fool's argument.

"Classic Bobbins", really worthwhile reply, that.

Sissoko was an absolute disaster when he arrived (and has hardly set the world alight since) and if you think his age, experience, expectation and yes, his price tag have no bearing on the resultant expectations and opinions of those watching him then you apparently know even less about the game than I originally thought. When you're trying to compare his situation to that of an academy graduate your response becomes genuinely laughable.

I know your main role on the forum these days is apparently to question every single post everyone makes if it's not 100% cheerleading every single thing associated with the football club, but it might be worth keeping in mind that just occasionally people are allowed to have different opinions to you and you don't need to call people out on them every five minutes.

Just a thought.

Carry on moving the goalposts...

The point I'm making and I suspect you probably know this as well albeit you're being deliberately obtuse is that all players need time to show their worth and all players need a run of games, whether they cost £30m or an academy graduate as if that makes an iota of difference to your argument and which ever way you want to twist it you naively wrote off Sissoko as a Tottenham player and chose not to take in the fact that he needed a bit of confidence and a run of games yet you contradict yourself when it comes to another. Price tag/experience or whatever arbitrary factors you want to desperately add in the point remains the same, it's a really simple argument.

And lol my main role?, get over yourself...why are you trying to paint yourself as a victim and I'm out to get you, this is a forum so your opinions are opened to be questioned by anyone, that's how it genuinely works Bobbins, whether I agree with them or not if I feel they have enough validation that's worthy of a response then I'll respond, don't act so surprised when someone brings up a point you made which contradicts another one which happens to everyone on here not just you so it's something you're gonna have to deal with, in other words man up and stop being so precious.

I've not moved the goalposts once, not even a tiny bit. Cool attempt at a straw man.

"You're gonna have to deal with it" - calm down Arnie, this is a football forum on the internet, not training for the Navy SEALS.

I'm not painting myself as a victim and I don't need to "man up", im just not remotely interested in anything you have to say, that's all. You can keep quoting me all you like but I'm plenty bored enough of you now to pop you on ignore and leave you to it.

There is a big difference between saying
that Sissoko or Carroll or Janssen or Tom Cobley are shit
and that they played poorly in any particular game.

That all new players to the squad must be given time,
Academy or wherever doesn't need to be said surely.

I was critical of both Sissoko and Wanyama performances 'early doors'
but both have settled and made good contributions.
Particularly Wanyama especially yesterday.

No the same people who said - Kane, Rose and every other young player who needed time were shit championship players.

Different from calling a guy supposedly in his prime that was being an absolute lazy **** in a relegation fodder team and ridiculously shit with it who has still yet to prove himself as a consistent PL player.

Carroll had alot of good games with us last season yet people really do have short memories. He needs game time, he is at the right club to really thrive. I cannot predict the future, but if Carroll works at his game and continues to improve he could be a real star. Would not surprise me if we even have a buy back clause.

Carroll is 24 years old, I really can't see him suddenly exploding into something that we never saw before. We basically gave him as much of a shot as possible and it didn't work out.

Still a good footballer, just not at the level we're aiming at.

Exactly not our level but more than suited to Swansea and I think he will do well there. Two other ex spurs that were deemed not good enough for us are doing very "at their level" with Bournemouth. It's good to see our so called rejects making very able premier league players.
