Not sure it would have mattered what formation we started with against City to be honest - they were always going to be rampant after the result the week before, we just happened to be on the end of that.

There is no denying we look a lot more fluid and solid with a back 3 imo from what i have seen - Sooner Verts is back out on the field the better and Rose of course.
You could easily argue the same today. They were going to be rampant after their recent results. It's our job to match it and we didn't.

We've looked slightly better but it's a small sample size. I don't think it's helped that we've been very lethargic and technically poor the last few league games since changing back to 4231. Lucas beating Dier in the air and Coutinho out jumping Davies within 2 minutes of each other today summed up the intensity and desire that we've been missing since WBA and that had little to do with formation.

For anyone wondering Poch said we lacked desire, it wasn't a Sherwood rant but it wasn't far off, really he should be looking at his own decisions as well.

One other thought. I think we had the first corner of the game. Mignolet under pressure all week in the media, that corner should have been right over him with one or two of our players challenging him, instead he had a free catch with no white shirts around. Too easy. It set the tone for the match.

1. missing rose, jan big blow
2. no impact sub, brought on 47 millon off the bench in jansen and sissoko, neither of which have a goal between them.
3.liverpool were up for it more

none of the above is an excuse for that tepid, disinterested performance. again, players afraid of that next step.

This. Point 2 being the most depressing aspect though.

I can't even imagine that mate, I feel bad for you, genuinely I do.

Will be rooted to my desk no coffee machine visits all day, limit the exposure as best I can. Come Wednesday I'll just ask them who they've got at the weekend....

Shit record against the top six away this year. Pathetic actually.
I'm really worried about the thought of our 'home' games at Wembley next season.

All of these things can, and are, true:
1. We weren't very good today
2. We badly missed Verts and Danny
3. We have only had 8 games this season playing our best defence and are still 2nd
4. 352 is probably the right system for us but that means we need cover for Rose and Wimmer/Davies to compete to cover Verts
5. We don't have the depth and while it is fair to say we haven't got value on Sissoko or Janssen the other top 6 teams have spent SO much more money and had SO many more transfer misses, we are in a different league when it comes to spending. Pressure is on to get it right every time but for every Wanyama/ Toby/ Alli you can get a Sissoko/Janssen et al.
6. Chelsea in particular been lucky with injuries

Didn't see the match, but it sounds like what I was fearing. Another limp dick performance away from home in a big game.

It's not all doom and gloom, but let's face it we are just as likely to finish 6th as we are 2nd. Particularly if we progress in the cups.

We are a very good team, a bloody good team on our day. We're just not as good as we think we are. That goes for fans, players and management alike. We talk a good game, but then fail to deliver far too often. The performances following the West Brom game just haven't been good enough. It's easy to point to injuries to Rose and Vertonghen and a change of formation, but if you want to win things that shouldn't stand in your way. We should still be able to pose more of a threat to the opposition.

Really disappointing that it sounds like we played right into Liverpools hands and once again were completely unprepared for a team that pressed us high and seemingly had no answers.

If someone had told me we'd get two thirds of the way through the season only losing at anfield, Stamford bridge and old Trafford, I'd have taken that.

Ok we were pants today but when you have many be the best left back in the PL out and your main defender out any team will struggle with Liverpool away.If anyone told me that come February we will lose 3 games and still be second in the league and in both cups I would have told you to do one.Yes we spent money on a couple of players in the summer and it's not worked out but I'm hopeful that we can go on a good run till we play Arsenal in April.

All depends how much our players want it. We have the chance to put some pressure on Chelsea going away from home tmrw against the 3rd best home record (yes Burnley) in the prem

I am sadly about to take off on a 10 hr flight so going to miss the game FFS

Landed and seen result. Fck. Bleep. Bugger. Thought if we lost we'd at least have played ok. Apparently not

What will it take for this club not to be perennial legends anymore, no matter manager or personnel we will shit the bed at Anfield and Old Trafford etc, relentless disappointment :(

We know where the problems are. We lack depth. There isn't a plan b and when teams are on their mettle we can struggle.

We always struggle against Liverpool away and we always play poor when we have a media week. I shuddered at each article about Kane this week.

Still second though and we don't have any of the other 'big' teams to play away anymore. Mid February and this is only our third defeat.

A Horrible blip but just a blip nevertheless.

It's quite disappointing, not just the result but the way we performed, with a somewhat sense or real naivety. I don't know how our left side can get tormented for a whole half with no eggective alterations being made.

With that being said, we have to look at the positives and there aren't really any from this game but with a general outlook on the rest of our season. Like said we've played all the top 6/7 away from home already, we have Jan, Rose and Lamela coming back and also when you look at our remaining fixtures, we have tough ones for sure but we will be going into all of them thinking we should win them really.

Like I said today was disappointing but I'm also just happy to get this game out of the way, was our hardest one from now to the end of the season for sure.

Wouldn't say blip was more concerned how lacking in preparation and motivation for such a big game we were fucking awful way off the pace.
