The reason he was at Spurs for twelve years, mate, is because he turned down Fergie halfway through his stay. What would you rather have, a guy injured through no fault of his own, or someone playing that long uninjured and truly not giving a shit about the club?

He would have stayed even longer had Santini not blocked Pleat from giving him a contract extension.

I was amazed to see that he still has the record for PL appearances for us, and by quite a distance as well (299 appearances, followed by Defoe on 276). In fact, the nearest of the current squad are Walker (177) and Lloris (161) - which means that Anderton will hold the record until the summer of 2020 at the very least.

If that's not worthy of a testimonial then I don't know what is.

It is also quite interesting that he managed 31 more league appearances than Ledley over a year shorter period, yet is still ridiculed by several posters in this thread.

Full list is here if anyone is interested: http://www.11v11.com/teams/tottenham-hotspur/tab/stats/option/appearances/
Crazy to think Walker is over 7 years now

Isn't it the norm for players nowadays to donate the takings to charity rather than pocket them?

Correct although I don't think there are many suggesting that this should be done because he needs the money. It's just nice for a player and his family to have a day out to respect the service he gave the club.

One of favourite yet frustrating players ever. He seemed so supremely talented - his delivery was incredible. Such a shame is injury record meant he could never show his true potential.

Like Ledley, I suspect had he not had such troubles, he may have been bought from us much earlier on. Whatever the reasons, he played for the club for 12 years and deserves a massive and hearty thanks.

Petition signed and shared.

Anderton deserves it.

Personally I'd like to see only one testimonial later this year though. It should be for WHL though.

A legends game with all the recent greats/crowd favourites. King, Ginola, Sheringham, Modric, Robinson, Berbatov, VDV, Bale, Crouch, Anderton, Lineker..... Freund, maybe Gazza?? etc etc . Then all the elder greats (unable/unwilling to play) of the club can be paraded around the ground at half time.

C'mon Levy.... make it happen!! you know it'll make money!
