You can be as snarky as you like about it, @Bus-Conductor, but I sincerely believe that lessons have been learned from last summer, and given the sweet harmony that exists between Levy and Pochettino, there is good reason to be optimistic.

I think we'll see a minimum of 5 new faces.

Levy agreeing to buy who Pochettino wants is all lovely and harmonious, but he did that last year with Sissoko. And if it's Zaha and Barkley Poch wants then it could be another harmonious waste of money.

It won't be just those two. I laughed at Liverpool when they bought Mane, so I would be interested to see what Poch could do with Zaha. Nothing could quite match last summer's fiasco. Nothing.

Or maybe it won't be Zaha at all. We don't know yet.

I don't think last summer was a fiasco until the last day. I don't want us to bring in 5 players, we don't need to. We have players like Edwards, CCV, Onomah and KWP to provide squad depth too.

We only need a couple of players IMO.

Or he's just not that good? I really struggle to see the hype with Barkley

He's clearly got talent, imo anyway.

Whether he realiszes it properly remains to be seen. All down to Poch's coaching and man managing skills.

We need much more than a couple of players. People always seem to think we'll only get 2 or 3 new faces, but I don't think it ever works out that way.

In my opinion, from what I read, only one of the 4 you mention above is likely to make any sort of impression in the coming season.

I think 5 is excessive personally JH.

Assuming no unexpected departures and i'm including Walker in that, then it's only a LWB and an intelligent ball playing CM we have deficiencies in - at a push, another attacking option but I can't see us jettisoning Janssen just yet and assuming Lamela will come back then, excuse the cliche but it will be like a new addition to the side.

Minimum of 4, but probably 5. Midfielder, central defender, at least 2 pacey attacking players and a surprise from Santa. Janssen is toast, IMO.

See there are still people saying whose place would x or y take if we sign them, in 2017 it don't work like that.

Trying to compete at a high level twice a week as we didn't this season, requires competition all over the pitch. Winks looks like he could well be good enough, but I've not seen anything at all in the other academy prospects suggesting they are ready for the big time. so we do need to bring 2 or 3 in. Good enough to start without a dip in performance or confidence. And good enough to make a difference if coming off the bench. Any or all of the front men last night deserved the hook, but we didn't have anyone who could come on and make a difference.

Don't want Berkley but given his contract situation he's a Levy signing all right. Perhaps Poch could make something of him.
Maybe we could send Sissoko the other way, ha.

I'm still Maguire and Gray, but think Janssen will be given another season.

An attacker with real pace to stretch the Wembley pitch, another centre half, I like the suggestions of Maguire ( assuming Wimmer is gone...and he has to go surely? ) and if we are going to be really greedy, why not bring in a midfield dictator? Technically excellent player who controls the game, a la Luka?

It's about taking advantage of playing at Wembley. Lots of our opposition will struggle there next season if we have the right approach. We dominate possession nearly every game, a few tweaks here and there and we'll be fine...hopefully!

Barkley on the bench against Swansea. Everton fans convinced he's off for sure now.

After the defeat yesterday, I think getting Barkley will be a good buy. One year contract left, wage affordable, can be an alternative of Eriksen, can play in everywhere in midfield, English, doesn't have any achievement yet , have potential yet to actualise, can unlock the defence by passing and dribbling, better free kick and corner kick taker, the player type that we lack (perhaps except Lamela) . More importantly, Alli is suspended for 3 CL matches next season, and Lamela's injury is still a worry. For me it is a no-brainer deal, and should be done below 20M. We can put more money to get a Zaha-type (but not necessarily Zaha) player have tricky pace and skills. Even if he could make the bench, he would be a useful sub. Our main difference with chelsea, after all, is bench depth.

My concern with Barkley is that I'm not sure he has the energy required to play our system. Spends a lot of time plodding around the pitch. Compare his work rate to Eriksen's.

For me, the biggest thing it highlighted was our need to have a better footballing CM in there next to Wanyama. Someone who can set some tempo and see past the man next to him in the pass chain.

I like that we are being linked to players like Tolisso and Keita because that is exactly what we've been needing for a while IMO.

The caveat being that we do have players like Winks and Onomah with big potential for that kind of remit here already, and it did look like Winks was starting to work his way to the forefront of Poch's consciousness.

i just want keita. i see today that he's not ruled out a move so you never know, obviously he'd cost a fair whack(about the price of one walker?) but he would bring a hell of a lot to this team.

With Wembley - and hopefully a better CL campaign - in mind next season there's a minimum of three players we need to meet different requirements:

* An experienced centre-back to provide cover and nous, a la Gallas in 2010-11;
* A pacy forward, a la Zaha, to stretch defences;
* A replacement for Alli, whether he's an attacking midfielder or a second striker.

I'm aware I'm in a minority here but these strike me as being bigger priorities than an understudy for Rose, given that Davies has filled in reasonably well (in my view) for him.

Can't imagine we'd get three such players for less than £50m, even if the centre-back came on a free.

We could do with a player who's able to cover the kind of ground that Keita does as we transition to playing on the bigger pitches at Wembley and the new stadium.

Has it not been pointed out by one or two of our more reputable posters that that guy's attitude is odious?

EDIT:just Googled him. I am confusing Keita with someone else. Some African kid at an Italian club.
