I think Roberto Martínez came along at just the wrong time in the development of Barkley and Stones. Would love to get Barkley and think he'd click well in our squad.
I just stated one example of how Barkley could be utilised. But, if you take that literally as his only role, I can't help it.
For starters, Dele is banned for 3 CL games and most likely Son won't be available for the 1st month. So there is a chance for Barkley to come into the XI & perform. Poch always says players are paid to train. So, if Barkley trains well, who knows he may get a berth.
The very fact that Sissoko is on 90k (with a fee of 30m) & struggles to get to bench says that we are Ok to have a highly paid player on bench.
If your attitude is Spurs should challenge for all competition like Chelsea...then don't question why Barkley should be paid for bench role, when Fabregas & Willian are doing the same role for Chelsea.
I just done get this at all, I don't see how he improves us or gets anywhere near the team. Alli, Eriksen, Son, Lamela would all start ahead of him, I'd say he is pretty similar to 3 of them, we need somebody with more pace and penetration imo. Maybe Poch thinks GKN will step up next year and provide that. Guess we'll have to trust the manager.
Well if we sign him, he's going to be starting our first 3 Champions League games in the 'Dele role'i just don't see where he would get in our team, it feels like a steven pinaar (buying because he's cheap) type signing.
he himself says that the Dele role is his best position, he's not a DM, not a wide man and not creative.
I must admit that I think Barkley is a decent player - but I do agree with you in that I don't quite see where he'll play.
A big priority has to be a swift, tricky forward - especially as Pochettino has not given N'Koudou much game time to show what he can do. The other priority would be a creative someone to partner Wanyama/Dier in the middle of the park as Dembele is not entirely reliable. My preference for this latter role would be John Michael Seri of Nice - but sounds like Roma is close to brining him in. So what this Barkley talk suggests to me is that the coach either plans to slot Eriksen back into the centre to partner the DMs or he plans to play Barkley in this creative role.
I've a feeling he'd really frustrate us. After reading that Everton fans report I'm even more convinced that will be the case.
I just think he's not got a good footballing brain. He makes the wrong decisions a lot. But that could just be down to bad coaching. It's not like he's had the best managers working with him.
Anything less then 20 mill is a good deal. Unplayable in top form yet extremely anonymous when not. Could see poch adressing that.
Sure.... the problem is Everton want 50m
There is definitely huge potential in Barkley but its also clear that its far from guaranteed, in fact I would say the risk is high. We don't have the luxury of being able to throw millions around like other clubs so I feel unless Everton get desperate and need to cash in at a reasonable price then this deal wont happen.

What gets me though is this guy is often high up in the table for players in chances created and key passes. Plus he's now got a few seasons of solid assist production showing that it's likely not just a fluke.I've a feeling he'd really frustrate us. They are probably half trying to convince themselves that they don't need him, the same thing is happening with some people in the Walker thread.I've a feeling he'd really frustrate us. After reading that Everton fans report I'm even more convinced that will be the case.
TBF the Everton fans have been saying this for the last few seasons, it's not some new thing because he's leaving. They are probably half trying to convince themselves that they don't need him, the same thing is happening with some people in the Walker thread.
