Trippier is nearly 27, he's not some youth prospect. If we're selling Walker because he's maximised his potential due to his age, I can't see any reason why Trippier will suddenly become a world-beater.

Rose was no world beater at 24 but a year under Poch sorted that. If poch thinks he can improve Trippier, then he can improve him.

Part of a wing back's job is to create
make and if possible score goals, like Danny Rose for example, maybe Walker's return on those requirements isn't as good as we would like. I don't know what his assist stats were last year but I honestly can't remember him putting in a cross leading to a goal like Trippier did, it is certainly not a big part of his game so that might go in the cons column.

Trippier is a better crosser of the ball but he is a weaker defender , we rely a lot on Walkers ability to recover quickly, note who covers centrally when the CB's go up for a corner .

Walker is not the best right back in the world, but he is part of a solid defence which is our best asset, and most improved part of our game . If we sell him , we need a strong replacement, Trippier alone is not the answer .

Sad if Walker leaves. Besides money I cant understand why he would want to leave. Going to a team who has finished behind us the last couple of seasons.

There's a third camp actually. The one that believes that there is a gulf in class on the attacking front. Trippier put more quality balls into the box in one game than Walker managed all season.

I think Walker is the better overall player, but anyone who disagrees with you on the attacking front needs to look at these stats:

Walker - 2704 minutes played, 5 assists (an assist every 541 minutes)
Trippier - 566 minutes played, 5 assists (an assist 113 minutes)

Based on those stats, if Trippier had produced his assist rate over as many minutes as Walker played, he would have clocked up a massive 24 assists (that's as many as Eriksen and Ozil combined!).

Because he mostly plays against the bantha fodder?

Despite popular belief, in the domestic competitions, Trippier was in fact up against a top 6 PL opposition 55% more often than Walker was!

In the league and domestic cups, 4/13 (31%) of Trippier's starts were against top 6 opposition (he started against Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal). Only 6/30 (20%) of Walkers starts were against top 6 opposition. 31 is 55% higher than 20.

They both got one start against each of our CL opponents, so those games cancel each other out. However, if those are to be factored in I would consider Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen to be tough and CSKA Moscow to be relatively easy. That comes to 6/16 (37.5%) for Trippier and 8/33 (24%) for Walker, which is a difference of 57%...Walker comes off even worse there.

Walker is the better player. If Trippier was better then city would be after him rather than walker (you have to assume). However, Trippier is a decent substitute for him and if we get 50m odd I can see why we'd accept.
Walker must want to go though which is why this is happening. If he were happy, we wouldn't sell. Given the money, cover and what that money will do for the squad is why he'll be sold (probably)

Sell on fee involved apparently which is why Spurs are sticking to their valuation : BBC Sport say
"It is understood Sheffield United have a sell-on clause of 10% of any fee above the estimated £3m they sold Walker for eight years ago."
As Del boy would say "A nice little earner".

How long does a sell on fee last? It's been eight years and three contracts since we bought him, I'd have thought there's be a statute of limitations in there somewhere even if it did exist, and I'm not convinced it does.

If Walker is gonna go i'd really like the deal to be wrapped up asap so we can get on with some business ourselves. Hate that we leave everything to the last minute with regards to summer purchases.

Don't know if this is right but wasn't he due a testimonial next year?

No one is due a testimonial any more, days of a given testimonial after 10 years are gone.
They still happen at times, but only if club decide to (or in many cases fans demand it).
Used to be a retirement fund for loyal players after all, no player need that anymore.

Love trippier as an option against the weaker sides due to his attacking quality but defensively against the bigger sides is a little less solid. Wouldn't be upset and would trust Poch obviously but KWP as back up wouldn't be acceptable... Yet

I'm guessing it lasts until he is sold.

I agree in part with what you're saying. However, I don't think we rely on Walker to recover. That is purely down to his poor positioning. You rarely see Rose having to track back 20 yards because someone has got in behind him. I lose count of the amount of times Walker is caught out and has to use his pace to recover.

I wouldn't like to see Walker go to a rival. He can be a really dangerous player at his best and I would rather have him on our side than against us. We did OK with Walker first choice and Trippier back up last season. As they say, 'if it ain't broke don't fix it, Of course,if Trippier is looking to start more games, I wouldn't hold it against him. At least he is not chasing 'big bucks' which I suppose could be said of Walker. Surely he doesn't think it is a step up? We are the bigger club despite City's BOUGHT success over the last few years. We have won our reputation fair and square on a level playing field and over the last two years, WE didn't,'t buy it.

Let's not delude ourselves, if the oil money had come to us we would, in all likelihood, have done the same as City.
