Do you mean 'it' (as in 'is the new stadium worth it?) is worth a period of austerity (which we knew, would happen) then 100% yes.

What's happening to us now is what happened to arsenal. Gonna lose alot more top players in the next few years before we come out on the other side with money to compete again.

But the difference is our manager won't stick around.

We weren't expecting 2 years worth of champs league qualification money when we started planning the new stadium. We certainly werent expecting £54m for Kyle Walker. We, like every other club, are getting ridiculous amounys of TV money... where is it all going!? We need to invest in the squad, and we cant expect to keep some of the most valuable players on the planet happy if we pay them half what they're worth.

I'm stating the obvious here, but yep, players want to be paid what they believe they are worth just like you or me. Yes we might think that £70,000 a week is more than enough for anyone and of course for most of us the thought of that kind of salary is the stuff of dreams. But to them when they see players who they probably believe are inferior earning maybe 1.5 or 2x what they earn, and possibly have opportunities to win things then it's bound to cause them frustrations. If I love my current company, but see that by jumping ship and moving elsewhere, I can double my salary then why wouldn't I consider that for my future.

Pay isn't everything but it's very important when taken in that context, however I also mentioned winning as a component.

Most of them are also going to be massively competitive people, or else they wouldn't have been able to become a top level footballer. They want to win as much as we want them to.

2nd place is great but it's still 2nd. We still need to start winning again. Although that still wouldn't be enough to bridge the financial gap, it would help to raise our profile worldwide, which in turn would likely help with merchandise sales that can't hurt to help pay off the stadium and/or maybe increase wages.

We need to winning trophies that have prestige like the F.A. Cup, or the premier league (got quite close the last few years). If we start doing that, although it won't fix it all, it will certainly help keep some players happy for a while.

Right now they probably not only see themselves as underpaid in the current market, but also are not even getting the glory they believe they could achieve for their personal goals.

**excuse the rambling - I'm still half asleep as it's still 4:50am here...up for work nice & early!**

I reckon the 'period of austerity' has got a bit less, if even anything.

We need to find a middle ground, thats clearly obvious now. Something has to give in the short term if we want to keep our talent and be competitive. But the stadium is the key to EVERYTHING going forward. More revenue, more exposure (from NFL) and ultimately more attractive to buyers, which is exactly what ENIC want. They won't be around much longer after next year.

Keep the faith.

Danny Rose hasn't helped matters lol.

I don't see why he can't say what he thinks. I liked what he said = he has 1 chance left and wants to get paid what he wants. He might also play closer to home one day.

I don't see what the big problem is.

Of course the stadium is worth it.

Our capacity has been holding us back for years and we can really push on once we get ground to match our rivals.

You don't think a player going to the rags ringing out demands for our club is a problem? If this was a Liverpool player we would be laughing our tits off.

It's probably safer to pay off the stadium quicker with the unexpected income, who's to know what will happen in the future

The new stadium is well worth it. As for our lack of strengthening i'm getting sick and tired of a majority of the supposed fans of spurs lately. There seems to be this huge obsession with signing a player, any player ,even bloody Andre Gray for nearly 19 million. It's a joke and look what happened last time we went out and signed a ton of players. It all went to crap, people need some perspective and also buying new players for the sake of it is pointless. It's basically like wanting a player for the sake of it, also comparing ourselves to Man City,Chelsea and Man Utd is also pointless as we are not a money bags team and at this current stage cannot attract a top top end player as they demand wages that are now way out of our league.

I'm sure a ton of people will disagree and whinge about no ambition but that's just crap. Spurs are in a great position , have ambition (just look at the new training area and ground being built) and have been doing amazingly well recently but that is due to the manager and Levy being smart. If we went out buying every player like some seem to want us to do and also pay the high end wages we would be bankrupt and in masses of debt.
Spot on

not quite the same as what happened to Arsenal, but then with the cost rising it might hit us a bit more, but I really expect us to be able to pay it off either quicker or with the extra revenue from other events will just give us enough to be able to make that little extra push to keep and buy players.

Levy will get us a better naming rights deal, we will also be able to hold plenty of events including the NFL games, so will get extra income compared to them.

Currently 8 really shortsighted people on here haha

suspect there is a correlation between the years supporting Spurs and your answer to that question....if you were a Spurs fan the morning of the 1991 semi knowing that we could go bust or at best would need to sell Gazza to avoid that fate AND were just about to face a supremely talented version of our hated enemy....this Rose spat is nothing....the lack of new players isn't a problem and the stadium is incredibly important
