The paradox with all this is that while we were operating as a top 5/6, and occasionally top 4, the wage budget would have been what you would have expected.

However, we've now 2 seasons consecutively, established our selves (open to debate if you like) as a top 4 side, and even dare I say, a title contended. Yet the wage budget hasn't proportionally improved with our position/status in the league.

I'm my opinion, we cannot sustain the position we are without offering a competitive salary to the players we currently have in the squad, or any new additions we want to make.

We've either got to accept that our wage ceiling is what it is and lose players to bigger salaries elsewhere, or accept that we'll flirt with occasional forays into the top 4 and have our best players cherry picked by our rivals who pay more. Or pay the going rate for the quality of players we have, and for a club of this status.

There's no 4th way as far as I can see.

ENIC have taken two small dividends since they have been in charge, revenue has consistently been reinvested. If people are going to comment on finances they should at least investigate the facts.

What a daft comment some people are blinkered and can't see the difference between the club pre ENIC and now. Of course we are in a terrible state with poor training facilities, a stadium that has fallen down and a team that is constantly struggling in the Premiership!!! I am54 and these are the most amazing times I have known as a lifelong fan, well done DL and JL

ENIC bought us for £80m, and they will sell us for x10 that. He's done a fantastic job with their investment. But yes, its a daft comment. THE DAFTEST

I never said I didn't agree. I'm slightly uncomfortable with this practise for exactly the reasons you've stated. Personally don't like the fact a player can kick up a fuss and just be granted their move. But I'd strongly advise against getting your hopes up that we'll force Rose to stay against his wishes - either Rose and Poch have a long discussion and mutually agree on a solution, or Rose is out. It's just the way we do things.

But this is where I don't agree with you, or your last few sentences.

This outburst from Rose is not the norm, so you can't really just say this is the way we do things. This is new territory and it extends beyond the realms of just the manager having an opinion/say.

I'm sure Pochettino and Levy will be discussing what's best for the overall situation, and I'm sure Pochettino would understand that Levy would have to interject to a degree.

That wouldnt be undermining the manager, but working together to resolve this the best we can whilst protecting the interests of the Club.

No matter what we think about Levy/ENIC and putting us in this position, no player is bigger than my club!

He needs to go - simple! Yes it may make other players feel the same way, but I only want players who want to play for my club, you need their commitment and dedication to give you any chance, it is clear he doesn't want to be here and there is no way IMO we can keep him after this.

Absolute piss take after what we have done for him as a player and whilst Walker I respect his move, Rose will certainly get some rough treatment when he comes back to the lane, esp if he does go to the chavs....!

So sad, and think we will see this again next summer with Alli so enjoy this season with him lads... until Enic/Levy go, we will always be a selling club sad truth of the matter.

Hertyid's latest on it sounds as if some words were going to be had at some point today. Tomorrow's ITK will be interesting.

I'd love it if Poch called Rose out... Got all the squad in for a team meeting and said,

"Right I'm going to hand this over to Danny who it seems has some opinions on the team (bearing in mind he didn't know half of you without Google 2 years ago - Dele, Dier I'm looking at you)... He is also going to tell us which 3/4 household names we are going to sign and who's position in the team they are going to take. After that he'll have to leave so that he can meet the chairman before they fly off to negotiate those deals together... So everyone, a big hand for Danny please..."

Comments from David Pleat on 5 Live today, and he obviously knows what's going on at the club; the underlying tone was unmistakably critical of Rose:

- teammates with not be enamoured with the comments.

- Rose was no more influential over the last two seasons than any of the other 11.

- convo should be had internally, but sometimes these things are agent inspired.

- Rose is not the only left back in the world, and not the only English left back. Reeled off Bertrand, Shaw, Gibbs, Creswell, etc.

- Rose was very good in the system that Poch implemented, which allowed him to flourish.

- Spurs will sign up to three players this window.

- I'd be very confident if I was a Spurs fan.

- Some players might feel intimidated by our first 11 and worry they might not play. E.g. Harry McGuire.
This! Of course Danny is an excellent and tenacious left back but the system is extremely important in allowing him to be that player.

Thanks for posting that Johnny, I missed the interview. Pleat still seems to have good contacts at the club and doesn't have an obvious agenda/axe to grind as far as I can see. Wish he'd expanded on the reasons to be 'confident'!

We still need 3-4 in - BUT, this whole episode could be a blessing disguise if the players rally around each other and fight to prove they are good enough to win trophies. We sort of need that edge.

It's really a sad situation. Rose, right after his Sunderland loan, still had a bunch of question marks surrounding his game. Pochettino helped him take the next step and turn him into the best LB in the EPL. It's sad to see him return the favor by talking this nonsense in the media right before the start of the season. Totally unprofessional.

That being said, if he screws his head on straight, I'll welcome him back and won't hold it against him for all of eternity like some are claiming.

It's watch us rise, not watch how we rose (or watch our rose).

Swap for Shaw, anyone (with united taking care of the wage gap)?

Top stuff Phil!

Hope you don't mind, I have passed this on to my friend Donna, who just happens to be Commercial Director at THFC, with the suggestion she passes it on to Poch :)

I'll let you know if I get a reply....

It's not really surprising. He's an arrogant little shit. Mouthing off on FB about how he didn't want to leave Sunderland to sit on our bench.

It's part of his character, and part of what makes him a good player. He's full of himself, and that's probably part of the reason he's made it as a Prem footballer. I can understand his viewpoint. If I were in his position and not a Spurs fan I'd be asking myself why I'm doing double training sessions for less money and more effort than I'd have at West Ham, or less money and less success than at United.

However, I wouldn't voice any of it publicly like an unstoppable moron.
