Everton are being really stupid about this really.

He has one year on his contract so no way worth 40 million when we can just get on free next summer.

I get that this is an open goal in terms of negotiation potential for Levy for numerous reasons, but as we know Chelsea are interested and could be desperate in the last week I'd much rather we do not try and screw every single penny out of the deal and just get it over the line.

Well, yeah, but Everton have already agreed really high prices for players with 12 months to go, so they kinda have to insist on getting paid those levels too. They'd be taking a big financial hit and doing it publically, and whoever does their deals won't last long around there if they are accepting sensible prices on sales and paying crazy money on purchases.

They're in a situation where the "principle of it" is a problem.

It'll be great credit to DL if we get this done at a low-ish price. Not easy.

But £25 million is £25 million - That's a lot of dosh for them to risk. They will need to sell.

Feel sorry for Ross. From the itk we've received Everton have decided to make an example of him & make his transfer as hard as possible
. He's decided Spurs is where he could develope & get his England place back by playing week in week out with Harry,Dele, Eric & Co. Then coz of all this fucking about he's now injured & his move is in danger of not happening & him sitting it out in the ressies for Everton unless he does a U-Turn a signs a contract for a manager who has previous with him & doesn't get the best out of him.

I will be disappointed if this is true but I heard Jim White on talksport earlier saying he has heard Barkley wont leave Everton during this transfer window due to the injury

I feel he is definitely ours this window if we want it, but I would be very nervous about letting it run to January. He seems 100% committed in wanting to join us and us alone, but if we fail to match his commitment then 4 odd months is a long time for him to start to doubt us and start considering other options, given that we would have failed to to show a strong desire for him and get it wrapped up. Other clubs could start coming more strongly into the equation as the price tag falls

Just my opinion of course

Sorry if this has been asked but could we negotiate with him in January on a free transfer?

Jim white is a top class prick, don't listen to anything he says
I agree and if he says it you know its not true.
As I see it if he is out for six weeks that takes us up to the end of September which is the international break anyway plus of course that is six weeks until a return to playing not a return to training so before the end of October we would have a fit and ready up to speed Barkley to call on.
That being the case I can't for the life of me understand why people think waiting until January, and it would be the end of January, is a good idea.

You can pass a medical while injured - if it doesn't go through that won't be the reason.

I think he'd flourish under Poch , sad he's out for a few weeks but I'd prefer to think of what he could achieve here over a few years

I can think of at least 15 million reasons. Plus, he is likely to not be 100% fit until closer to December than October.
