Let's not lose the plot here. We shouldn't be trusting publications we haven't heard of before this transfer saga over those like Sky that have earned their reputation for being a very credible source. When Sky announced it, we should take it to the bank.

I totally agree but just felt it fair to let you know it had been reported. I personally think it's over the line and that our first acquisition (I do hope there's more) is an absolute cracker. A recognised star already and at just 21 he hopefully has years left at Tottenham with which to grace the new stadium. Really excited about this signing because he has chosen to come to us instead of any other would be suitor....that sends a clear signal to all the other players currently in negotiations.

Interesting that the papers keep including the RB cover comment when it's easy to see he's never really featured there. Maybe it's come from the club that we think he can be used there at a pinch.

Looking at it, we are being quoted 25m for RB competition, but could get one of the hottest CB prospects in world football for a bit more (before add ons). Maybe we decided this was better value and the squad can cope?

Wonderful acquisition, high price, but well, the market is crazy anyway.. No doubting, but amaze we can compete at that price point. Can't wait for official announcement!

Anyway, am I the only one who thinks Overmars is a knob for this transfer?

I doubt it's the club releasing it. The media are lazy and the right back stuff started in the Sun of all places. It then spread like wildfire.

I did consider that. Time will tell but I've probably just given them too much credit.

He has the physical tools to do a job at RB and DM, and Poch is good at making players adaptable, although the fact the Ajax fans say his passing game is his weakness simpy being a beastly CB seems by far the best option.

Well, I'd say he has pretty similar attributes to Vertonghen, who can also play LB (although he doesn't really want to).

I believe Toby may have also been used at RB in his career. Dier too, obviously.

There seems to be a pattern of us going for these type of guys, and I think it's a sensible pattern.

Imagine a tough away game, and we have:

Sanchez Alder Dier Verts

As our back four. That's pretty dam impressive and feckin powerful!

Very promising signing. I'm not gonna lie I didn't know of the guy before we'd become linked but he sounds like a good acquisition. How do people expect we'll line up? Does it suggest we'll look to play 3 at the back more and he'll partner Vertonghen and Alderweireld?
