If Bielsa thought 14 year old Poch had a footballers legs- I wonder what he would think of Aurier's

I can just imagine it now.

Bielsa arrives at his house in the dead of night. Draws back the duvet so take a look at his legs. Aurier wakes up..."What the hell you doing faggot?!"

@Bus-Conductor you watch a lot of Ligue 1, onions on Aurier fitting in at Spurs?
I watch a lot of Ligue 1 as well and I have been the biggest/earliest proponent (not necessarily of course but you know what I mean) of this move. I was championing this before Walker was sold. I felt that we should bring him in irrespective of that move because he was a better player than both Walks or Trips. He is not quite as quick as Walker (but who is?) but does have great pace. From equal starting positions he will not be outpaced by many forwards.

His technical ability and reading of the game more than makes up for the relative pace deficit to Walker. Like Walks he will shut down our defensive right side. Teams will not get much joy over there as his aggressiveness and tackling will strike fear in players minds. And that is what you want from you FB. But he will bring more offensively by being able to actually pass a ball, control a ball on the move, and cross it first time into dangerous positions. He will not cross it as well as Trips (but again, who does?). But he is superior to trips in every other category...by a large margin. I expect KWP to surpass Trips this year anyway and become backup for next.

The only question mark(s) have been repeated ad nauseam in here. It was clear he was available after Alves' move. It was also clear that although PSG rotated (he played half the league games), Muenier seemed to be Emery's favored RB due to his offensive edge. What wasn't clear was whether we would investigate the situation. I hoped we would. I'm glad we did. I hope it works out for all parties (and that includes some club PR work to assuage the concerns of those that feel uneasy about the move and some maturity on Aurier's part to repay the faith). I'm American; I like underdogs and 2nd chances.

I imagine the ongoing JJ is alluding to is his situation with getting into the UK rather than fees and wages.

That's what I was thinking, otherwise there would be no reason for the delay. Gards liked it as well so must be what the club is waiting on.

Wouldn't have changed much today. He will be better against teams that don't park the bus and all staff cars in front of the goal...
Yeah he will. When you see the diagonal-in runs he makes in behind that trips cannot because he isn't fast enough, or Walker didn't make because he wasn't smart enough you will be amazed at the new dimension brought to this team. Eriksen was twice in the right halfspace and the FB could have made the run but Trips gets a nosebleed that high up the pitch. It is the exact type of run needed to get in behind a low block. We have never had it but if he comes we will. Just watch that video and see him come in from the line diagonal to the box. PSG players drop it into space for him to chase. Very dangerous.

Tripps has a lot of game intelligence in the final third. You are doing him a massive disservice. I agree though Aurier will replace the athleticism we've lost in Walker and hopefully a bit more brain to go with it.

Based on today's game I would say this signing should be our absolute priority. We desperately need some pace on the flanks, and in the team in general to be honest. Davies and Trippier together doesn't always work, as neither can beat their man.

We must be fairly confident on his entry to the UK been granted. However if we don't get it I do hope we have an alternative lined up because we will struggle against the bigger teams with just Tripps - as much as I like the lad.

This is my only banker in my head. Think he is waiting for us otherwise would have already gone elsewhere

I did not disparage Trips' game intelligence at all. What I did was accurately comment on is his relative athletic deficit. He can't make the runs because he is slow(ish) and scared of the space he will leave. Since when does accurately assessing a player become a disservice? How many times did he beat a man today? How many times did he make their backline retreat to their goal. I am sure he intelligently wanted to but he couldn't because he lacks that quality against the better sides. And this is against Marcos Alonso not Marcello or Alaba. Aurier is a different level to Trips. That's not a disservice at all. Trips didn't even get many crossing opportunities today. And truth be told they were all cut out easily by their defense that was prepared for his particular threat.

I think the giveaway will be if he can't enter the UK to sign the contract !

I agree. The other thing this does is prevents Alonso from pushing high up the pitch too, as he in turn is scared to over commit incase his opposing player exposes the space he's left. At WHL last year Walker and Rose had the pair of them pinned back the entire game and they really suffered. Like you say Trippier just doesn't pose that threat, unfortunately.

This. This is why I wasn't scared of Chelsea last year as I knew that if we mirrored the formation we were better than them in the positions that would be determinative. Their wingback and midfield 2 were going to be dominated by ours. Now, although Mousa dominated today we lost WB areas because Moses and Alonso are better than Trips and Davies. We must improve those positions.

We will improve the left if/when Rose comes back (assuming full recovery) and the right with Aurier if he comes. But as I intimated in my earlier post I wanted both Trips and Davies upgrades to more athletic, better footballing options. The drop from starter to rotational option was to large. If we cannot afford to buy top class attacking talent then we should solidify our rotational option elsewhere. Looks like we are doing that so that is good.

In my opinion for a Poch team to work consistently at Wembley we have to have at least one full back with blistering pace starting every game. It just doesn't work otherwise in my opinion, we don't stretch opposition teams in order to give space to Eriksen, Dele and Kane. Davies and Aurier or Rose and Trippier works fine, Davies and Trippier just doesn't.
