Tottenham ready to pay £27.5million for Keita Balde

Tottenham have been linked with the Lazio attacker Keita Balde Diao for weeks now.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the Londoners are willing to match the asking price for the Senegalese forward now.

Apparently, Lazio are holding out for a fee of £27.5million for the attacker (translated by HITC). The player is thought to be keen on a move to Juventus but the Italian champions are unwilling to match the asking price for the player.

Keita has been one of the best players in Serie A over the last 12 months and Spurs could certainly use his pace and flair. The Londoners need to add some width to their attack and Keita would be ideal for them. The former Barcelona player scored 16 goals from a variety of positions in the Serie A last season. The 22-year-old can play anywhere across the front three and his versatility would be an added bonus.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Keita would only join a Premier League side if they are in the Champions League and are based in London. In that case, Spurs have a very good chance of landing the player. Furthermore, their willingness to match Lazio’s demands will only benefit them.

It will be interesting to see whether Juventus decide to pay up for the player now. Keita is intent on leaving and if the Italian giants do not splash the cash, he might just decide to head to England with Spurs.

Please be true, I did think his only club of choice was Juventus. First time i heard he would be interested in move to London club playing in CL.

News reports that Juve interested in Sissoko! Ask Juve to step aside on Balde and we'll do a very reasonable deal for Sissoko?
Would be too good to be true.

I think this is sort of common knowledge, from what the ITK say, I don't think us paying the price is the issue whatsoever.

We've probably had a fee agreed with them for a while now, but no official bid as keita as of yet has rejected us in favour of juve.

He's basically playing a game of chicken. Wait too long and he could be stuck at Lazio another year, join us, and he misses out on going to his "dream" juve.

Fuck it, if they agree to that let's just pay them to take him away.

BEN has appeared from the trees to deliver bad news

He later dismissed this as a wind up. Said he was doing it to annoy a specific poster on that forum.

This one won't go away will it. I guess the fee is not the problem and Lazio are happy to sell to us. Juve appear to have given up so now it's really down to whether the player fancies the move to England or if he wants to stay in Italy and go on a free next summer.

I have a feeling this will now happen. Lazio won't sell to Juve on the cheap so they've given up.

I guess there is a chance Juventus come back on deadline day with a take it or leave it offer and Lazio crumble....that is Juventus's strategy I am sure. Also I believe, what the player is holding out hope for will happen. However, if we can convince the player to join us instead, the player may decide moving to the PL is the best option rather than risk being stuck at Lazio for another year.

The reason I think this will now happen is, we have obviously been in discussions with the player for a while, as he already rejected us a couple of weeks ago according to JJ. Now, Spurs don't normally make bids to a club, unless they are sure the player wants the move. So for the story to break today about us making a bid, and based on the ITK from Hercules and Gards just the other day, we must have finally been given the green light/encouragement from the player to make a bid and he had indicated we is willing to join. Otherwise why would we make a bid? Time will tell I guess and this is based on the assumption that the article in todays paper is true.

The concern would be that we sign and he still wants Juve.

They come in for him in 6 or 12 mths and then we have a disgruntled player

Think it was Hercules who suggested one player had agreed to come if there was a condition to contract - think this is your prime candidate

We agreed the fee ages ago.

It's not new information. The player will go to Juventus, I'm beyond convinced.

My head says this is highly highly unlikely. But he is the one I most wanted us to get and there was ITK a couple of weeks back that a deal was close i.e. I assume both price with Lazio and personal terms with player were more or less agreed. So my heart is finding it hard to give up all hope.

There are numerous scenarios in which this won't happen: KBD has decided that it's Juve or nothing and he's willing to risk 'rotting in the reserves' for a season; Juve do come back and meet Lazio's price at some point; Lazio crack and agree to sell at a lower price to Juve rather than have an unhappy player on their hands for a season with no value at the end of it; we walked away and really have no further interest in a player who has his heart set on another club. If ANY of these applies, it's over.

BUT isn't there a sliver of hope? Maybe just maybe: Juve don't come back for him; KBD therefore realises that Juve don't really value him and just wanted to stockpile his talent if he came cheap and he wouldn't get game time; we still believe that he will be committed to us at least for the medium term and he is a talent worth taking some risk on and grabbing now. If ALL of these apply, we have a chance.

I agree but willing to be wrong. The story just doesn't add up to me based on our window. Our strategy this window seems to me to have been built around sounding out players, getting a feel for wages, luring them to our benefits, introduce Poch magic, and tying them to a pre-contract agreement while we work on a fee so that the bid agreed to signing speed is at full tilt. I just don't see us calling up Lazio and going "here's 30million" and then calling KBD and begging him to join while we gives lovey eyes to Juve.

The story leaking now, right after Juve have denied any interest (a peak Levy move near the end of the window), feels more like it would come from either KBD's camp to force Juve to contact him and whisper more sweet nothings, or Lazio's camp to test Juve's stance and try to set a price if they are expecting them to come back in on deadline day.

Gotta love a "pre-contract agreement" though.

We agree to agree ...

Forgive me if I'm wrong - and there's some nuance to this - but if that's what it is, it's not worth the paper its written on if it's indeed written down at all.

I doubt any paperwork signed while in the employment of another team ("company") would hold up in court. It obviously wouldn't stop their agent from signing something with us but doubt we would go that far and any agent who did sign would be an idiot unless we could make unparalleled offers (we're Spurs so... nah?). I merely meant we're trying to make sure we have everything drawn up on our end and that the player is keen on us before we bother making any moves. In other words, the opposite of the West Ham model.

So Lazio have just sold Left footed CB Hoedt to Southampton.

Article out there suggests Milan are to offer €15 million, M'Baye Niang and Left footed CB Gabriel Palette in exchange for Keita Balde.

Am I right in thinking European transfer window shuts a day after ours? If juve might be waiting for ours to shut and suddenly they are the only bidder left in the last day. They would need the player to put his trust in them that they won't leave him hanging though

Sorry to nitpick, but my point was agreements to agree are just not enforceable; no certainty of intention.

More to the point, all paperwork will 100% be signed when in the employment of another team. In the same way you sign a contract to work at a new place while you're still at the old place.
