Milos left us in 2016, played 8 games for Bremen (He could easily have got those with us) and only last season played 38 games. So to say he was handled badly is a mistake/ guess. He would not have replaced Jan or Toby at CB and in 2016 not Dier in CDM. Nor last season with Wanyama in CDM. Even Wimmer was ahead of him. Poch can only offer what is available. The game time wasn't there for him and he left. Fair is fair, you can't keep a player, not playing, unless they have no ambition or you're paying ludicrous money.

Veljkovic got stuck in U21 purgatory for about 4 years, along with a couple of crappy loans (one awful, one ruined by injury) and I think was too small for Poch's liking at CB but too languid for CM (which I think will be a continuing problem for Onomah, but just my opinion). No wonder he wanted out eventually.

I'd have much preferred giving him game time over randoms like Chiriches and Stambouli. But what's done is done...

Villa won 4-2, shame about his injury but at least he still played some part before going off.

Any word on how bad the injury is?
Tottenham loanee Josh Onomah was substituted on the half hour mark with a head injury and he'll be assessed over the coming 48 hours as is procedure.

Bruce also confirmed Gabby Agbonlahor missed out with a back injury and would also have to be assessed ahead of the Wigan game.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, Bruce explained.

'Josh has a head injury. We don`t know the extent of that yet. That was disappointing. Mile was close. But he was sore yesterday. We have put a lot of work into him. We will see how he is in the week. Gabby had a twinge in his back.'

Let's hope it's just a clash of heads and precaution. As long as he's ok its probably better than a muscle injury at this point!

Would be surprised if villa have had 30% possession in the first 15 mins. All Onomah is doing is closing down.

villa are so passive without the ball, and don't try and play when the do have the ball, really hard for him to get involved, some closing down, and then when villa get the ball they hoof it and lose it about 4 touches

It staggers me that we didn't do our research and find a team to take him,who might actually try and play a bit of football.

Not much to report really so far. The last few minutes of the half have been slightly better, but Villa haven't played enough football. You can tell Onomah has ability every time he is on the ball, it just hasn't happened enough.

However my usual critique also applies... I wish sometimes he'd be a bit busier as it would benefit him massively to make impact on games. You can still be languid but making runs into a position to get yourself involved - Josh doesn't strike me as a 'thinker', someone who reads/anticipates the game and what might happen a phase or two ahead. I also don't think he's been very good defensively in that 45 mins in all truth, at close quarters he's scrapped for it but he's been pretty weak having to track back and again his reading of the game comes into play - when to make the burst to get back in to cover space etc.

Hopefully he is more involved in the second half.

Agree completely and possibly the reason he hasnt received more gametime in CM under Poch.

If you look at Winks he is constantly trying to find little pockets of space to receive the ball...he is always looking for it. I know they are completely different players but Onomah doesn't do enough off the ball to receive it. Not that he doesn't work hard - watching that first half he covers an enormous amount of territory...but he never looks urgent enough to evade his marker and receive the ball.

So many times watching him you want him to make a run to get the ball and he tends to just stand his ground. He has absolutely evident talent when he has the ball at his feet so this part of his game is a shame. Perhaps he is more used to picking the ball up off defenders when he has played a deeper role so hasnt developed that aspect of his game yet...this is a very good learning opportunity.

Onomah had some brighter moments second half and saw a little more ball, capped with the goal.

As I said at half time, he's got things to work on, and work out on a football field, but in a lot of ways he doing all he can and trying his best working off scraps - midfield control and building through it is largely an alien concept with Villa.
