@Gb160 any reason you market my post asking if he can train as funny? I don't know the answer and was asking as it would be good for him to start training asap for maybe coming into contention for the game Sunday. If the answer is obvious and it was a stupid question then I apologies but I am genuinely interested as to if he can train whilst awaiting a permit.

Cheers

Whoops, although i dish out a hell of a lot of funnies these days that one was a slip mate, I blame apple and their damn touch screens, to answer your ridiculously polite response even if he was training i don't think we'll see him this side of the international break, Poch doesn't seem to rush new signings into the action.

Obvious question - when is he available?
Does he have a work permit?

Also, I expect he will be called in to the Colombian squad over the break, so a bit less time to settle. That could push back his first appearance to the League Cup - depending on injuries/fitness.

Lad seems to be highly rated but it's ominous for the Alderweireld contract situation and/or the Dier cm situation.

I don't think the Toby situation will have made any difference to our thought process in signing Sanchez.
If we rate him that highly we had to act now; if he has another stonking season at Ajax he would probably be unattainable next summer.
They're thinking about the future regardless of whether Toby re-signs - we're not Arsenal
It also allows Dier to predominantly compete for his preferred position.

That's what worries me. Immensely.

Looks like he'll be wearing the no. 6 shirt, @SpursOfficial giving away a signed shirt on which he has included #6.

He wore 5 at Ajax, so clearly not out of habit.

Ummm, why?

Probably because watching him play there he looks exactly like a centre back awkwardly playing in midfield.

He played in mid out of necessity a couple of seasons ago and provided a defensive balance to the midfield duo Poch loves that was badly needed, but his role there has now become redundant. I really like him in defence, especially in a back 3, but in midfield he is a limited passer (barring his occasional Huddlestone-esque and not in a good way hollywood pass) and Wanyama provides everything he can and much much more.

I don't like Dier in defence at all. When he plays as a CB, he becomes a liability. At the middle, well, I agree Wanyama offers more than him, but that's the only position I would play him.

Dier is over rated in both positions.

Runs the danger of getting into his mid 20s being a very average CM and not developed his CB game

I don't think Dier is that poor at CB he just looks poor as the weak link alongside Toby and Jan

I am delighted with this signing though. I thought CB would become one of our key requirements this summer to cement our preference to the 3-4-2-1 formation... I remember discussing CBs with a Dutch friend after we were linked with de Vriej. He described Sanchez as perfect for us but dismissed it as he was likely going to Barca.

He is perfect for us... He is athletic, good on the ball - Raw yes but as part of a 3 I think he will get away with that mostly and have time to develop.
