The type of player we want and that will improve our first team, especially an attacker, is also the type of player who thinks they have a chance of Madrid, Barca, PSG, Man U, Citeh etc etc. It is not just a question of asking their club how much and Levy handing over the cash. They will have options. We have to understand that with these types of players we will not be their dream or the biggest payers. They may be very happy to come here but the idea that we just get "Levy to stump up the cash" takes no count of how the system works. We may well be prepared to do just that but the players are potentially sitting with 2 or 3 offers while waiting to see if one of the really big boys comes in for them. Is it any wonder we do our business late in the window?

A very convenient excuse but I can almost guarantee you that if we had matched transfer fee and wages both Mane and Salah would have chosen us over Liverpool. So at the end of the day it comes down to money not competing with the supposed lure of the mega clubs.

those are the names that the latest ITK has mentioned so i can understand the frustration, for were we are currently i think our aspirations should be set higher then both of those names, but we shall see come deadline day.

But isn't that the point? The ITK actually said that we're still on for our main targets, it's only common sense to have back ups if they don't go through. ITK also said that Benteke had been mentioned not that we're after him, for all we know it could have been a passing mention about what a shit his agent is to deal with.

I like my ITK as much as anyone but it's always 3rd possibly 6th hand information, with the chinese whispers effect also at play. How people get so angry at stuff, rather than applying liberal salt and enjoying the information early, really does baffle me. If on the 1st September we're short that's when people can legitimately get angry imho. Saying that I thought Levy and Poch had fucked up two seasons ago by not signing a DM but Dier came through and we finished 2nd (Well 3rd but only because of those ****s)

I know we are all frustrated after today but it really isn't all doom and gloom. Considering what we are building at WHL it was always going to be a tough period transferwise. I'm amazed we spent that much on a young CB. If we land Barkley, Sancho, Foyth and Aurier I will be a very happy camper transfer wise. We can't compete with the big boys yet and have to go about our business in a different way.

United look good but City were lucky against Bournemouth, Chelsea lost to Burnley and Hugo gifted them the points last week. How can we match the wages Liverpool pay Mane, when our turnover is about 40 per cent less, people need to get real.

Who are these fast, incisive players we should run out and sign? And when we pay them 120,000 a week, do we increase wages all round .

The players have screwed up in the last two games. Too many toys being thrown out of prams by tiny Totts.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

I agree, much more important things to get annoyed about and as i said above we will have to wait to the end of the window to see whats what.

What i will say though, it it is fine to have backups but neither Benteke or Origi actually plug the holes we need to plug so the angst is a combination of things and the poor result today puts fuel on the fire.

We did a similar thing last time we were in the CL.

When things are going well on the pitch we like to get the cigars out and think we've made it. After all, when we're second and every one is singing our praises then we don't really need to improve.

We can't seem to grasp the concept that the best time to improve is from a position of strength to stop your competitors catching you up or even surpass you.

Still a few days to go so we'll see what happens, but we've been here before and despite the popular myth that the end of the window sees it all come together for us, the actual facts would suggest otherwise.

Sadly, completely right.

The 'Levy time' myth seems to stem entirely from Van Der Vaart, as otherwise all his record shows in that department is a rogues gallery of failed transfer attempts and panic buys.

Wrist-slitters are out! What's the worst that can happen? It's not like we can sign Sissoko for £30m again, is it!?

I don't know yet whether I want Levy's babies or his head on a stick. I know it's not a popular idea but I think i'm going to wait until the window closes before passing judgement .

Did i dream the ITK about us having to give assurances to the banks that we would keep our net spend to around 0 up to and including this season to get the loans for the stadium build? So maybe we cant just do what we want this window? According to what i dreamt/read, this is the last summer like this. Also, just calm down some of you. Save youre fury for the day after deadline day or end of the season

I'm having trouble seeing Pochettino calm as many claim.
There's only 4 days to go. That's not a lot of time.

Just sign Barkley FFS!! It's clear he's the one Pochettino wants the most. I don't care if he's injured. Just do it. He's earned it.

Maybe he's working towards a name more famous than VDV for us to quote in future windows?

If we can get sancho along with barkley and aurier then i think that will be a decent finish to the window. Foyth will be CB back up and then anything else will be a bonus but those are the 4 that the ITKs are probably talking about methinks. Sancho will offer that pace and trickery if poch feels that he can be fast-tracked into the senior squad and barkley will give us something different at AM as well. Sanchez, foyth and aurier will obviously boost our defence which looks a little bit off at the moment. I would be well happy with that window.

Hercules mentioned it a day or two ago. Said we have to keep a tight net spend but starting next year it's on.

*Flash Forward to next year* "We have to be tight this window as we've not got the new stadium money yet but NEXT year... it'll be really really on"
