If the rumoured £35m fee for Ox to Chelsea is true I think it sets a precedent for Barkley. Similar age, nationality, international caps, total games played and contact status.

This is something I mentioned earlier in the thread, but it seems that Liverpool might still be interested and the Ox isn't currently injured

It's Chavski. Like the Manchester clubs, they'll always pay above market rate to close a deal when there are competitors (Liverpool flush with Couthinho cash in this case).

I can't see Levy paying £35 million for Barkley.

The absolutely crucial unknown is the extent of Barkley's hamstring injury.

The Daily Mail sez it's a Grade 3 tear, which the physios on SC tell us should give Spurs serious pause for thought as it may lead to recurrring injuries.

Whilst ITKs like Trix tell us they've heard nothing suggesting it's that serious.

I'm not a BSODL, but I respect Levy's rigour and have little doubt that he will insist on full medical disclosure from Everton before agreeing any deal.

Back in the day, we signed Michael Dawson with a hairline fracture which allegedly was missed at the medical, and only diagnosed after he complained of pain in training. More recently, ITK said that our medical on the Fulham / Celtic Dembele was sufficiently rigorous that we passed despite a deal being place. So, we've learnt the importance of thorough medicals.

Fundamentally, Levy and Poch will need to know how serious Barkley's injury is. If it's minor, I believe we'll sign him for a fee in the region of £25-30 million, with a bunch of Levy clauses, before deadline day.

If it's serious, a Grade 3 tear and no prospect of being match fit until Xmas, with the potential for a permanent underlying weakness, I suspect Levy will roll the dice and hope we can sign him at a cheaper price in January. However, such a tactic would increase the risk of Barkely signing elsewhere.

True, had not thought about the impact of the injury. It will have a bearing on cost but not sure a hamstring injury will change the numbers greatly. Will be 3 months of what will probably be a 6 year contract, worst case.

if hi name was N'boula we would have signed him

It's infuriating to see players like him, moving for peanuts, yet it seems the club simply cannot identify one or two (Sancho is one for the Left, but not a pace merchant like this guy) who are prepared to come.

Has the mail repeated its assertion of a few weeks ago that it was a grade three tear, nobody else has corroborated that independently and I'm not sure if the mail is still running with it.
I'm talking about Ross Barkley by the way.:)

I think @Trix alone has posted his thoughts on this about 10 times in this thread. Barkley nor Everton have said how bad the tear is and so would make me think this grade 3 stuff is a load of bs.

Personally I can't see this going through however. Just seems to have gone on far too long.

Seems to me that the ambiguity re the hamstring tear is just the sort of smokescreen that suits allowing Everton to save face while making a deal at a price that Levy is willing to pay. Strongly think this gets done at 20-25.

Everton's silence can be interpreted any way you like. ;)

I have a friend who is a scout, mostly kids but they have garth barry on their books and he said the deal has been done for ages and they are just haggling over add ons. Also said hes thick as 2 short planks
if you don't mind ask him why Barry did not return to Brighton? Would have been a fairy tail ending wouldn't it?

but surely this has got to do with where the player wants to go....seems like Monaco is an ideal spot for a young player looking to make a few moves -- join them, play immediately, do well and they will sell you. Would he start for us? Would we sell him if he did well and got offered a lot of money from a petro club? Unlikely.

Also tax free and a nicer area to live than tottenham.

Also, Monaco are as different a proposition for players as we are to City - league, country, location, wages... And we will have a very different set of criteria for players we're looking to sign.

Besides, Barca kids only sign for Stoke or Everton these days ;)

Say Barkley stays at Everton and is out until January, he'll have 6 months left on his contract. What would Everton accept then? That's the way we should be negotiating

But when we buy a player, we do so using legitimately earned income, not with money stolen from the Russian people.
