Oxlade-Chamberlaine off to Chelsea probably means that they're not that keen on Ross anymore (If there were any). And if he's injured to january, I don't reckong we will pursue any more interest in him. Might be the reason why Martial is poping up on spurs's radar. My opinion though..

Tottenham could delay Ross Barkley transfer bid over injury concerns

Tottenham are considering whether to delay their move for Ross Barkley due to the Everton midfielder’s injury problems.

Spurs today sold Kevin Wimmer to Stoke for £18million, a tidy profit after they bought him from Cologne for £4.3m only two years ago, and the deal is likely to spark more transfer activity at the club.

But Standard Sport understands there is now uncertainty about whether Barkley, a long-term target, will arrive this month.

Tottenham have been interested in the 23-year-old since last winter but are aware that his hamstring injury is set to keep him on the sidelines for much of the rest of this year.

Barkley is out of contract next summer, and has also attracted interest from Chelsea.

Tottenham’s issue is whether to sign him now, but be without him for a significant period while he recovers, or take a step back, possibly clearing the way for others buy the England international.

Easy call. Just buy him now. Too much risk in waiting until January and leaving him mulling over his options. Potentially implies to him we're not as keen as we should be.

These are from The Everton Forum.

Both posters seem to be considered ITK to some degree, especially the poster of the first quote.

Been told he wants to stay. Not sure fully on whether he signs a new deal or till he sees out his remaining contract term but seems happy to carry on.

Looking at some Portuguese defender, think he's in his late twenties.

Ross had another op last week its a bad injury he has.

I would agree if it was clear that Barkley's injury prognosis and recovery was straightforward, but we simply don't know.

Everton ITK is suggesting it is a bad injury.

Our resident physios here on SC have stated that if it is a Grade 3 tear, this may result in an underlying weakness with a chance of recurring hamstring injuries.

If that's so, I can't see Levy splashing north of £25 million now with Barkley in the last year of his contract.

In fact, the recent Spurs ITK suggesting "big" signings of player(s) who have suddenly become available may be in part because we can potentially use the money earmarked for Barkley elsewhere. Eg on a pacy, mobile, front man / attacking midfielder.

Gutted for him if this injury puts an end to the transfer. He is the one that Poch really wanted and he obviously really wanted to work with Poch. Had a feeling it would have been a good match and he could have got the best of him. Can understand us being cautious if its a bad tear. Shame though.

Time to move on then. Feel sorry for the lad as they've brought in his replacement as well as adding Siggy plus his manager has no time for him.

Standard is bang on. Still possible under our terms. But "too much smoke for there not to be a fire". That is a message I received from as close as you can get to the situation.

I remember when we were laughing at the "grade 3 tear" reports. Take me back to those halcyon days, pls.

Shame if this doesn't happen, as I think he could be a great player for us.
