If Barkley goes to Arsenal he hasn't been paying attention. The Ox, Walcott and every other young British player at the club has seriously failed to progress under Wenger. I believe the ITK that he wants Poch because he feels he'll improve his game.

Its all down to us. He wants us, and Poch wants him. Levy just has to go for it.

This seems to have been going on forever, just want it to end now one way or the other! (yes, I am aware there is a "deadline")

Still think we'll move for him but are using Gomes as an alternative option.

Graham Beecroft (Talksport's man on Merseyside and one of their better journalists) was just on saying he expects Barkley to join Spurs. It was put to him that Chelsea seem more interested but Beecroft basically said RB wants us.

Jim White said a few mins later that he'd just been told that Everton are happy to keep him unless they get £40m.

Seems quite transparent that Beecroft is being briefed by the player while White is being briefed by the club, but this appears to reinforce Trix's ITK that Barkley's people expect the move to us.

The fee has always been the problem here though - doesn't sound like Everton's resolve is going to be broken in wanting top dollar for him

Or that White is being briefed by a bloke down the pub, or his own febrile imagination, or he is a lying bastard make your own mind up.

Quite possibly, but I can't imagine come 10pm Everton are genuinely going to be willing to lose c£30m for what is essentially a 6 month loan of a player Koeman doesn't get on with or particularly rate. They'll definitely blink, the question is whether they'll blink by £10m.

Wouldn't go over 25 million for him considering the circumstances. Everton is insane if they think 40 mil for an injured player in last year of contract.

I suspect a lot of it might be PR. Everton rightly held out for highest possible price for as long as possible. But, if he really has his heart set on Spurs, Everton's bargaining position diminishes as they approach the deadline. They either sell and get something, or risk him leaving for nothing next year. That would be an almighty gamble for a player that *might* not be fit for 3 months, and *might* not be in the manager's plans anyway.

Getting the message out that they are demanding a high fee protects their position - especially if they later agree an undisclosed sum. Plenty of opportunity for both sides to spin it as a success, without anyone outside really being sure either way. Everyone comes away with their reputation in tact.

I simply can't believe they won't sell this afternoon. The new owner might be wealthy, but he ain't a fool. They won't want to lose £20m - or whatever the fee might be.

I'd be pretty shocked now if we don't sign him by the end of the day. Mainly because this has gone on so long now it probably won't get the focus it deserves but I really think he will be a superb signing for us.
