According to the mail we buy him for £40m next season if he plays over 60% of games.

SAMI MOKBEL: Tottenham have edged ahead of West Ham in the race to land Andre Gomes from Barcelona.

Told that under the terms of the deal Spurs will be obligated to sign Gomes for £40m if he plays 60 percent of the games.

If he impresses enough to play 60% of games in our crowded, talented midfield, he's worth 40m.

I don't necessarily think signing Gomes would mean the end of Barkley. Barkley could be seen as the heir to Dembele's throne, whereas Gomes may be preferred further forward or even vice versa!

I watch every Barcelona game, as they're my second team, so to say.

Andre Gomes is a quite silky midfielder with good passing ability and quite good vision with the ball. A good ball carrier as well. However, he's really slow and tend to be outmuscled even in La Liga. I really can't see him well suited for EPL, to be honest. And I don't really see him as a Poch-midfielder...

BUT: Barcelonas midfield was all over the place last year, with Luis Enrique basically playing the ball directly from the defenders to MSN. Every single one of their midfielders, including quality players like Iniesta, Rakitic and Busquets, struggled and looked insecure and quite average by their standards. Andre Gomes had his first season in that mess of a system, so that should really be considered before writing him off as mediocre or shit.

There is basically nothing about this move in the catalan media, btw. A bit strange, they are normally very close to things. It's all about Coutinho atm.

Just got round to watching a vid of this guy, looks very similar to Barkley

Seems like a valid alternative if not even better, very skilful

There must be a reason Barca dished out all that money for him one year ago

We have a lot of midfielders and not sure we need another one, We need someone who can produce some magic, open up a 10 behind the ball defence Someone who can spot a pass or kill a team with pace

Wasn't the problem that he played in Barcelona as central midfielder whilst his primary position is much closer to 10 than 8?

Think one of the problems at Barca was they were a shambles last season. Apart from Neymar and Messi everyone was dreadful. Amount of appalling games I saw from Rakitic too who I rate highly shows me not to judge Gomes' performance too much. He was extremely good at Valencia, if we get him clicking like that he's better than Barkley imo and 40m next summer agreement in current market could be a relative bargain.

No, I don't think so. He didn't play as a 10 for Valencia either, and according to Transfermarkt he didn't play as 10 for Benfica before he went to Valencia either. He is a 6 or a 8, and in Tottenham I really cannot see him anywhere else than in Dembeles position.

But we saw last weekend that Spurs need someone who can controll the ball in midfield. Someone who can take the ball down and dictate tempo. Gomes (and Llorente...) could have been very useful in the last 15 minutes against Burnley.

He's not better than Barkley imo. Not even in his best years at Valencia.
Barcelona spent a lot of money in stupid signings lately, so I wouldn't take that as a reference. They just signed fucking Paulinho

Asked my two Barca supporting friends (these guys are fanatics, by the way, watch nearly every game and have detailed arguments on all the players) and received this in response. My message was "Spurs are getting Andre Gomes, tell me about him?"

Friend 1 - :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: worst Barca midfielder I've ever seen

Friend 2 - he's absolute garbage no confidence no strength no pace and no brain

Hm.
