I think we are the big reason why Barkley didn't sign a new deal - I would guess Poch has been in his ear off the record.

I also think when Koeman said they wouldn't be negotiating to sell Barkley on the last day - it was aimed at us. Probably after the Sissoko issues last year

Ohh, I forgot about Sissoko.

They should be thanking us though. Are they seriously angry we snatched Sissoko from them?

Lets hope Ross keeps his head and doesn't sign a new deal before January. I get we want to pay as little as possible, but he was spreading his cheeks for us and all we had to do was get the lube out of the drawer.

I love that he obviously just wants to play for us and for our manager. I really hope we can get the deal sorted in January because he could become a real favourite here.

Only guessing.

Probably also thought that we would match it and offer 30 but then Levy would try and muck about with instalments and reduce the deal (he probably would). Chelsea would have been the easier deal for them. They probably knew if Barkley knew we had bid the same he would want to join us..

I don't think there is any chance of that happening - he clearly just wants to come to us.

So JJ is saying we might still sign someone from Spain?

No. We can sell to Spain, but I don't think we can buy anymore...

On a sidenote, if it's true that Barkley has rejected Chelsea in favour of waiting for us, it's an amazing sign of where we are as a club. We're viewed positively by many players out there, and I'd argue that no club in England has a better draw for young British talent.

They know that if they come here, they will develop as a player and improve... and if they have the talent and work ethic, they will be given a chance - not just be loaned elsewhere or discarded to rot and have their careers ruined.

I see one major problem with waiting for Ross to let his contact run down.

Without a fee involved, he will be in a position to demand ridiculous wages come January. Surely this will count us out? Unless we could pay him a fee instead.

We could pay him a big signing on fee...

If Everton refused to deal with us today, who's to say they'll deal with us in Jan?

Barkley isn't going to wait forever.

Hope so! Hopefully its convinced Everton he ain't fucking about and wants us over anyone else, and they won't get money elsewhere.

My initial thoughts too, but if they want some money from him, they'll let him talk to us in Jan. Seems like they dropped a bollock tonight thinking he'd not turn down the chavs.

He holds all the power now. The Everton majority shareholder sounded genuinely shocked at what happened.

So what's the worst case scenario? He goes elsewhere for more wages and we lose nothing. Is it really that bad? I like Barkley but this isn't Messi we're on about.
